My , how interesting .

I guess it would be unreasonable to start slagging Australian hunting for its canned hunts and then proceed to debate ethics in relation to Australian hunting - or does that still only apply to "other " countries?

Are there any wild Elk in OZ??
I have the lastest "wild deer and hunting adventures" i going to have to get over for one of those Tassie Fallow.
Can someone tell me more hunting Sambar with hounds??
Do the dogs bale the stag?? at which point it is shot??

Look what has been lurking around without posting.

I thought that was what Gryphon was doing already Roll Eyes. Except in this case it looks like a deer farmer is advertising direct and not even trying to pretend it is hunting.

Mate, you have to get over your inferiority complexes and join the rest of the Kiwis on this forum. Criticising canned hunting industry in NZ isn't criticising the local hunters at all. In fact probably joining the vast majority of your local hunters.

No one with a signature line like yours can complain about the behaviour you alude to, hey? Wink

The simple answer is yes. Some quite large herds which are escapees ..... The countryside and difficulty of hunting is nothing like your Fjordland.

Can't comment on the rest.

At times the hounds will bail a stag at other times the stag will be taken in front of the hounds by hunters in predetermined positions or by following the hound voices on foot IE walking the hounds to where they can start the deer running and using a mixture of fitness and anticipation to keep up or near the hounds,it can be very tough hunting for the boys doing it every weekend for 8 months or so.

to a degree yes but not always so...sambar are the worlds true colonising deer in that they will actively seek out new areas continually..if they are on a land locked bush range for instance they will cross open ground for many many miles in seeking out a new area, they will eventually reach way up into Qld and of course they and the rusa herds have already crossed and some monster hybrid heads will come out of that neck of the woods

you could have told me this 6 years ago would have saved a hell of a lot of walking and yes blackberries.
but looking at the pic on the page it would be shoulder friendly too just use the 22lr its cheaper to run that the 7mm and at that range probably just as effective
