Importing a stock
Guys,
Do I need any permits or such to import a stock from Boyds?

------------------------------
A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

I imported a custom thumbhole stock for a Sako Finfire oh about 18 months ago from Richards in the US.
No troubles, it simply landed in my PO box.
It was marked as "wooden sporting goods" Wink

So no, AFAIK you don't need a permit.

I imported a stock, about 6 months ago, and no permit was required. It came via Aust Post with no problems.

I'm about to order a Boyds target/varmint stock, are you ordering direct from Boyds or have you found someone better to deal with?

A friend of mine imported a couple of stocks from boyds for his rolling blocks about a month ago with no problems.

No problems that I am aware of with dealing direct with Boyds. I was just wondering if there were any good online dealers for Boyds stocks, I have a few other bits and pieces to buy & hoped to get it all in one order.

I found one problem with ordering from Boyds - any order over $100 (not including freight) requires them to get an export license. My stock was under $100 but I was also going to order one for a mate at the same time - we couldn't do it. He will now have problems as he was going to order a finished stock from them which was well over $100.

I don't know why the $100 limit before export license. Maybe it is because they are a manufacturer rather than just a retailer. The last stock I ordered from the US was well over $100 and I didn't need an export license.
