Death By Double Rifle DVD
Anyone seen this?
Watched it the other day and was appalled at the number of .450/400, .470, and .577 Nitro shots this guy took to drop just about everything. On one occasion I counted 6 hits from his .470 just to drop a Buff then still it took 2 more to dispatch it, A Zebra took about 5 from his .450/400 and so on. I was excited when I sat down to watch it but was left wholly indignant at the lack of skill and care shown. Back Slapping and congratulating him on good shooting standing over what was a majestic beast now full of holes. I love Hunting, I love Animals, I love Big Bore Rifles, I love Africa. But this left me truly disappointed.

I sincerely hope that is not par for the course.
And I hope none of us hunt that way.

Andy

In my view the hunting and shooting are above average. I have had bad days with shooting goats & deer sometimes. It just happens. Then there are days when I feel like Jim Corbett or Karamajo Bell - dropping any animal at any distance with a single shot to the heart from any angel.

Yes Mark Buchanan is obviously wealthy but I thought his style was a lot more acceptable than some others. He does post on AR BTW.

I honestly think that we tend to forget our worst shooting instances and tend to criticize others too easily.....JMHO

I don't know Mark Buchanan personally, but have spoken to him a couple of times via email, mostly about his double rifles.
I found him to be a true gentleman and a very interesting person to talk to.
He has a fine collection of rifles both vintage and modern. From what I gather, they are all taken on hunts and none are safe queens.

I don't think it is anything new that in real life, big game sometimes/often takes a number of shots to put down, even with large bore NE rifles.
Some DVD's only show the nice quick one shot kills, which can lead to the belief that it should happen like that every time.

Big game can take some punishment, even with good shots from big bores.
One of my PH friends along with a client shot a 48" Buff with over eight shots ( most in the heart, lung area) and yet the Buff still hammered him.
You will note that most of the shots were at short distance and within a shot space of time.
A lot can happen in this short amount of time.
