Thar in April ?
I have a hunt booked for this upcoming April for Stag.Thar are also available, and I was wondering what the quality of the cape would be like at this time of the year?

Are you using a helihunt or ground hunting for the tahr that you may be offered ?
If a helihunt has been offered has the hunt technique been explained to you?

The results of our walk in hunt earlier this year, tough yards but real and true free range hunting the way we like it.Most satisfying!

Just to answer the question. The capes will be fine. No as good as you'd expect in late May or June, but you can have it both ways. Personally I would not have any concerns.Always surplus capes about.
BE more if guys could carry 200lb packs and carry out all those head skins that get cut off behind the ears!
Gryphon/shanks think like a guide some times !! That's good $$ your leaving on the hill. Its only weight.

Ah! I think we were lucky to carry ourselves out on that trip..7+ hours just to get down from the high camp to our base camp and then a 10 k trip downstream.A very very strenuous activity for blokes that have a few years stacked up,in fact for all concerned going by some of the "snoring' pics I have.

I agree with you Highlanders we actually had some conversations on that trip re that subject.
Heres a link to a trip report I did at the time where I bring the subject up.

I'll spend some time today and repost this report on this forum so all can read it.
Surprisingly though, I've tried to get interest in Tahr capes before, and not many people want them as they are a dime a dozen in comparison to a Chamois cape which everyone seems to want.
Do you need capes Gerald? I can carry the odd one out for you.

Here's a bull from late April kestrel.

Here's another. This guy died in a creek so his hair is a bit matted but he has a spectacular cape. We saw some with shorter capes but were able to be selective and find good horns and good capes.
