TOP_PREDATORAttention Hunters coming to New Zealand with firearms.
There has been changes to visitor licences and import permits.
Police website says you must apply at least 30 days before you trip
Any New Zealand Outfitters had issues this season??

GillettehunterNew post today over on Africa Hunting and apparently there are some issues already. The poster indicated that there are 3 hunters with firearms being held that might not be able to hunt. Extremely poor timing on the part of NZ.

30.06kingAlso seems to be a new procedure for arriving Firearms baggage, at least in Auckland International Airport.
Usually after collecting my Firearm I trot over to the Police desk, advise them by the phone I have arrived and they send an officer to conduct the check.
I arrived at Auckland 11 May from Vancouver and didn't see my rifle case come out at the oversize luggage stand where it has appeared previously. So I caught an Air NZ staffer and asked if they could locate it. Was told Firearms now go into a locked cupboard ( sure enough, a locked cupboard is in the oversize baggage area ) and that when I had advised Police of my arrival they would retrieve my Firearm. I followed this advice and got a pretty friendly officer who unlocked the cupboard and asked me to grab my rifle case and we proceeded to the Police counter for the usual straightforward inspection. When I enquired he said this was the procedure from now on. I don't know if any wider notification of this was made but if there was I certainly missed it. I did not see any signage at the airport indicating a change of procedure.

I was astounded when i travelled through Auckland with my rifle a few years back, to find it sitting on the floor unattended near the baggage carousel. This seems to be a sensible procedure.
