A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

I was shooting on a sheep farm with Top Predator in the Waikato and found a baby hedgehog on the path.

The numbers of them are incredible! At one atge while doing a mustelid trapping program, I struggled to catch my targets as every trap kept catching hedgehogs. I had 200 traps spaced 25 meters apart and many of them caught 4 HH before catching anything else.

The stewart Island plan is good for us hunters in that it states it recognises the value of the deer too the community and does not encompass killing them specifically.
When I ws down there I was staggered at the number of wild cats- we killed two in 5 days and saw many others that were too fast for us.

When I was working in Taranaki years ago and driving up to the well at Urenui all i saw dead on the road were possums and hedgehogs.

Quite a change to Kangaroos and Wombats, with the odd pig or emu thrown in!

They are so common that I remember someone got in trouble for using one as an offensive weapon. Couple was having an argument and the guy picked up a hedgehog and threw it at her.

Thanks Shanks, I was a bit worried. Stewart Island is on my bucket list.

Its a great spot, and in my view, parts at least are overpopulated with deer. A hunting experience with a real difference.

The island is an adventure all of its own. The deer are just the excuse for going there but its much more than that.
