Woodleigh Bullets in 45/70
Bought some 405gr Woodleigh bullets yesterday to try in my marlin 1895 45/70. I usually use Speer 400gr FP and a good dose of IMR3031 for approx 1800 fps, but i couldn't get either of these so i will have to hunt around for some. Anyone Know who stocks IMR powders in Melbourne? Has anyone got a report on these projectiles? They are going to be used on Sambar.

Try 55gns of ADI 2208 in ya Marlin, in mine it hit bloody hard and groups all the shots into a golf ball size hole at 80mtrs, Good for Sambar in close and I reckon the 80mtrs is max. for a sure kill...Les

Les,
Your using the same load as I am in the Marlin 45/70. At 1780fps it hits hard at both ends.
Cheers...

That bullet is tough and hangs together well, I have shot it with 46 gr of AR2207, I have shot a couple of pigs and some grassy's with it. Drilled holes straight through the grassy's.
