BakesSpecies profile...the Fox
I love fox whistling

A cheap tin whistle a .22 and off you go. I remember having to yell out to stop one bumping into me. Shot it at about 5 meters. Whistled one up for a mate who had never seen it done before, all I heard was him giggling as it came closer, another convert to the art of fox whistling.
Another time I was in a tree and a fox stopped right under me. He had one eye and I was on his blind side. I went to squeeze the trigger and nothing! Trigger wouldn't work. I worked the bolt and tried again, nothing. The fox was looking around getting nervous then he took off. I unloaded and closed the bolt on an empty chamber, squeezed the trigger and the BLOODY THING WORKED

Lucky fox that one.

BushchookStill recall my first successful attempt at fox whistling when I was about 16 . Came across a vixen and about half a dozen largish cubs . Blew the whistle and about 4 or 5 cubs came charging towards us at full tilt . Think I managed to get one with my Erma lever action .22 magnum .
Prefer a bellows type predator call to the whistle these days .

GreybeardBushmanFox are my favourite target too.
I shot my first with an Uncle who loved pommy guns and had a Holland and Holland built for him then a custom Hollis. My father used to carry on about the wasted money when I was just into my teens.
But what lovely guns.
I only ever shot one sambar with my Carcano 6.5 near Gaffneys creek way back in 1975. It was no big animal but it was a buzz at the time!
Have shot a few Fallow over here in the Wimmera including one with quite decent antlers. But as we know, there are no deer in the Wimmera and I would become a eunick if I ever said otherwise.
A lot of Reds get bagged near the Grampians but I haven't had a go yet. One gun nut i know has shot a few with the new 7 mm WSM.
He reconds they are increasing rapidly.
I just get a buzz out of getting foxes though. I guess its my can of beer (sorry, cup of tea)
