Lurchers in Australia or New Zealand

Does anybody use this type of dog? Not for chasing pigs and such but for small game?

I dont anymore Bakesy but bred and ran them for years,a great breed of dog too. Every farming community always had a few blokes that bred their own line.. btw the good old Aussie name for the lurcher type is "staghound"

What was in yours Gryph? I think the origional make up was boarder collie and greyhound.

The original settlers used Scottish deerhound x greyhound crosses and that was the standard for years. Some infused Airedale into the line as well.
I used greyhound x staghound (Gxdh) and infused 1/8th English bull for a resultant smart 90 pound intelligent breed that would walk over coals with courage,fast enough to catch any fox alive and big and tough enough to handle any boar AND an extremely gentle people dog a very important factor to the family man.

Yes I do have an old album here non digitalised though cobber. Over the years especially in the early years of the net I posted quite a few on forms..in fact last time I did so i got in the shite with many doggers reply posting as the dogs were 'scruffing' something.... thats not allowed these days.

I always thought lurchers were Irish Wolfhound/Whippet or Greyhound crosses?

I watched an old doco I found at work and in England they cross greyhounds with differnt breeds depending on the game chased. Perhaps there are some of our Pommy mates reading this who can tell us more?
