"Death in the Tussock"
I spent 4 days last week hunting Sika/Red deer in the Kaweka range with two hunters i had never met before the trip, one being Steve.S that posts here and the other a keen Sika hunter from a New Zealand hunting forum.

Here are a few photos of mine and i think Steve will post some of his when he gets time.

We flew into the block by helicopter.

Monday afternoon the weather turned to crap, with no deer seen or or shot.

Tuesady morning,i headed up onto the tops.

I was following one hind in the scope(running shot) when in the bottom of the scope i saw another deer looking at me,so i went for the still target, yearling hind for camp meat.

Wednesday Morning,i was back up on the tops again.
I took a shot at a stag 313 meters and missed,so i headed up out of the small gully and into a mob of 8 deer, there was one Sika stag in hard antler so i shot him.

As i finished filming the deer, a Red stag ran past at about 150 yards out, shot hit him in the spine and he went down.

Thrusday morning all three of us heading back to the tops,4 more deer down,so we rang the chopper to come early.

Meat safe

A few more pics

This hind and yearling were over 600 yds away, photo taken at 14 power on the Leupold 4.5-14x40 scope with an Olympus digital camera

This hind was a bit nosy and hung around when it should have been long gone. The Barnes bowled her over nicely.

A couple more reds that came barrelling down the gut Nathan and I were in. They were scared by a helicopter operating in the distance.

Another sika yearling
