Re: The Philippines??
I've been through Bangkok with firearms on route Aust - Europe maybe 3 times over the past 2 years. So far so good. Fingers crossed for more good fortune as I have to transit somewhere and Bangkok is as good as anywhere and better than most.

I've declared my rifles to customs on arrival and had them kept in Customs storage at the airport while I went off on holiday for a few days. Don't know if that was a stupid idea or not, but absolutely no problems at all.
Just my experience....

I live in Texas and you guys are much closer to the Phils than I am. My wife is a Filipina. We'll be traveling to the Phils in a couple of years and I can't find anyone who has any hunting info. Do you know of any hunting in the phils? Also, how hard is it to get to northern Australia from Cebu, and what can I hunt relatively inexpensively? thanks capt david

I don't know of any hunting in the Philippines. And although I haven't been there since 96 my family and friends that are there all the time have never mentioned anything. I have seen advertised Philippine water buffalo before, and almost laughed myself out of the chair, since the water buffalo there are just like oxen were here. domesticated. We had pictures somewhere of a grand old buffalo with horns that almost touched his back, but he was docile and used to pull things.

But I was only on Mindanao, there might be other game and hunting opportunities on Cebu. If I can get ahold of my uncle who is over there now I will ask him to see what is available.

I lived in Philippines for 7 years until 2 years ago and never heard about any hunting there. I did a lot of target shooting and they have a lot of pistol shooting there ,but never heard of any hunting.
There are no flights from Cebu to Australia ,unless you go via Singapore. Flights go from Manila to Darwin via Brunei though (or direct to Cairns/Brisbane/Sydney). Plenty of others on this site will be able to point you in the right direction for hunting in Northern territory.

What's Singapore like to fly through with firearms? It's always a place I have always thought to avoid totally if carrying firearms in my luggage.

Nitro, plenty of red tape to even transit with a firearm through Sing. Plus it's going to cost you in the vacinity of au$180 for the Sing authorities to "escort" your firearm. Ridiculous and outrageous.

I was booked on a Qantas flight through Sing in March this year. When I contacted Qantas about travelling with arms and saw the forms they sent me, I quickly decided transitting through Bangkok was a much nicer proposition.

I read a tale of a couple of fellows in 1996 who travelled through Bangkok with firearms on the way to Whateveritiscalledstan, an ex-Soviet republic. All OK on the way there but on the way back even though they had all the same documentation were arrested for carrying firearms on the way back. They skipped the country illegally as they were going to be jailed.

I spent some time in the Philippines in the late 70's, early 80's, and hunting wasn't ever on the agenda - I don't quite know why, but as far as I could figure, there's not much to hunt (?).

I could be wrong, but that was my experience.

Beautiful country, though! People are great, once you get away from the tourist places, and away from Manila!

You'r right about the beauty. Of course the people are not quite as beautiful since my wife got here!!! A funny note; After my wife arrived I went shooting for, the first time, for a couple of hours. When I got back she inquired "where's the pig?" She grew up in the city, but her grandparents have a small farm on Bohol. I get the impression that there maybe some semi-wild pigs there that they shoot on ocasion? capt davidWink

I knew a guy running water buffalo hunts there, but I don't know if he is still active there.
The guy's name is Jay Carlson, tel. 631-725-4502 (Long Island, NY).
