Hunting & fishing around Byron Bay

I have just booked my tickets home this year.
I'll be going on a road trip to Byron Bay with a bunch of the boys for a blues and roots festival ( www.bluesfest.com.au ) After that, we are thinking of going for a hunt somewhere inland, or a good spot of fishing up the coast somewhere.

Can anyone suggest a good area for either within, say, 8 hours drive from Byron Bay?

Last time I was there five fortune tellers had set up in the same street. My question to one was "If you can read the future surely you would have known that these others were going to set up here.Why didn't you set up somewhere else?"
