Arthur DPerth
I have an opportunity to spend a year with friends and work in the Perth area soon. What opportunities there are for hunting and shooting?
I've only been to Perth once before and was busy with business at the time. I'll be coming from the Southern US, and that is my background.
Should I try to bring my own rifle?

wirehuntAs TP said, I don't think I'd worry about the rifle. BUT

you might be able to pull it off since your going temporary, I'd say get in touch with the local cops.
I do know of one patch of deer so that leads me to believe that there would be more. I do know of some good pig hunting north and east of Perth (not to far) and there is no shortage of camel's etc up towards Karratha. Plenty of roo's about to.

Arthur DI thought it may be a bit naive to think I could bring a rifle, but guys do travel there to hunt from out of country and they must have some arrangement.
What about shipping or arranging to ship an action to my partner (national) so he can build his own? I do have some time to plan this thing and we are not trying to break any rules.
So would a guy be required to hire a guide or simply get permission to be on the land you plan to hunt? Seems like incredibly wide open country to me.

wirehuntOver west so long as you get permission from the land holder your in.
With the action I would just throw it into the bottom of a suitcase and give it to him once your here. I've done this myself with a rifle barrel, otherwise your into the paper war and it's long and large and expensive so I hear.
Arthur, WA has the worst gun laws in the country and I don't know to much about them. If you go to Australian Hunting Net there are quite a few West Australians that post there that may help you out.
