enyFYI, I think there are some rules about not posting pics of feral (house cats) on this site. Was a rash of it a few years ago and some people complained about it. None the less, good job!

BakesNot aware of that rule.

Thank You Saeed, feral cats in Australia kill a lot of native animals.

sambarman338Feral cats are supposed to get pretty big but that one doesn't look over-large.
The cat lovers here have one that's bigger and fatter, and it got that way just eating crunchies and panhandling in the kitchen.

Charlie64.
Saw a fascinating documentary on feral cats in Australia a couple of years back. Stats on how many birds and other small mammals they kill pa was scary! They interviewed one old timer who made a living from trapping and shooting feral cats - was into his 1000s and also sold caps and waistcoats made from the pelts. Quite a business.
Dont know any other country that has a feral cat problem like Australia.

Live OakWe have a feral cat problem in Texas! Problem is half the time they are lounging at someone's house, the other half they are in the pasture killing wildlife just for fun! People just do not realize how destructive they are!

<shankspony>I seem to remember a big shitfight on the topic, and I think it was apropos that got turned down.
Wildcats are just like any other animal when not in native environment. Unless managed they have potential to get out of control.
Ive got an influx here Ill be shortly dealing with once calving calms down a bit.

yumastepsideFeral cats are a big problem here...I live in a small farming town in the north east of Tasmania, when we moved here about a year and a half back, the previous owner had nine cats that he left here and the woman across the road had 40 to 50+. Since I've been here, with the help of the RSPCA, I have trapped and disposed if 115 cats.
As to the size of the cat pictured...there used to be a photo floating around the outdoor magazines of a feral cat killed out in the central west of NSW...its back legs were tied over the roof rack of a VW Bug and its front legs were touching the ground !!!
When I was living in the central west I had a grey tabby attacking two of my dogs, a Doberman and a Rottweiler, I hit it with two SG rounds from a 12ga, and it still ran off...

Must have been.
We don't really have many rules.
The ones we do apply are just plain common sense ones.
I understand on some sites one is not even allowed to mention AR!

505 gibbsI remember it being this site, however, it was forum specific on the “Cat” forum. Some comedian thought it would be cute to start posting pics of house/feral cats they had shot. A moderator quickly informed everyone that was not the spirit of that forum.

BakesNo such thing as a house cat out in the bush

Many years ago I had a feral cat hanging around my house, so I set a cage trap. Caught the bugger and because I had neighbors close by and couldn't shoot it (rules are you have to live on a minimum of 40 acres before you can shoot on your property) I disposed of the cat via another method and found out a couple of weeks later that it belonged to my neighbor (who were arseholes)

No such thing as a house cat in the bush

SargThe cat in the post looks normal size well fed Tom, seen many much larger.
I did by accident shoot a Bengal Cat at the back of my farm a long way from any houses, it was night time & I shot it with a high power rifle thinking “great another feral cat gone” got over to it & it was beautiful, like a small Clouded Leopard, unfortunately blown in half or I would of kept the pelt.
Found out later it was a Bengal Cat & worth over $2000 !!
Like in this pic but this was a little Greyer.
Not sure how it got way out my place as I’m sure not a dumped cat ?

gryphon1Both fox and cat stepped into steel. The cat had been killed by wild dogs and dragged around on the drag. I took the pic as I had never seen markings as such ever before, almost as if it is Bengal blood in it.
