Im trying to decide between these 2 scopes.

Can you guys give me your experiences with each?

ALso trying to figure out if i want illumination or not. I only hunt boar at night a few times a year.

I do want crosshairs that are so heavy all the time, i like the A9 reticle in the Schmidt und Bender.

I have the Zeiss Diavari 2.5-10x42 on my sons .243W. It has the No.8 reticle which has very heavy side bars and fine cross hairs in the centre. I have never looked through an illuminated reticle and have no experience of the S&B.



I can highly recommend the Zeiss though. It has been to Africa and used to spotlight ferals here in Oz. Low light use is outstanding. My son shot two bushpigs at dusk at a distance of 60 metres. I could not see them with the naked eye, however he was able to double tap each with a shot to the chest, then head.



If I could afford it I would equip all my rifles with this scope. I do have a fixed 6x42 German Zeiss and two Kahles scopes though. I'm sure the S&B would be equally as good.

I think both scopes are in the same league. The thing to consider is the reticles. I have perfect eye sight and was having a problem seeing the very fine reticles A7 on the S&B. Someone there told me they are now making their cross hairs very thin to accomodate the illuminated reticles, but it seems to me that they are just too fine for the non illuminated models now!

i think your splitting hairs, they are both great scopes , i like the zeiss have bought several zeiss 2.5-10x42 with illuminated dots reticles etc etc for a few friends and have used them my self , and they are magic, i bought a 3-12x56 and that is in a class of its own, especially late evenings and night
At present i have a Ziess 6-24x56 with illuminated dot and turrents...takes care of most situations, and the optices are real good

I think there is a special on Kahles scopes 3-12x56 at the moment. I think I heard $1600.00 AUD.
I know its not what you are talking about ..... however.

Schmidt&Bender Zenith series
3-12x50 or the 1,5-6x42

Illuminated reticle N°7 Flash Dot.

Do not buy the N°9 Flash Dot, too much "red light" around your target for night hunting.

I've both reticles.

Also I have de Diavari and the Kahles. If money is not an issue go with the S&B with the reticle I'm recommending you.

Sorry, I must be clear, the circle dot reticle I have it on the Kahles. When you turn "on" the reticle, the circle and the dot, both, goes red, giving too much light over your target. Maybe in the S&B N° 9 reticle is not the same.

But I do have the S&B with the flash dot N°7 and is the best scope I have had.

Obviously as someone said, all the brands named are on the same league, all of them are premium scopes for night hunting.

I think the S&B has more control over the intensity of the illuminated reticile.
