HendrikNZ2009 FAIL
2009 FAIL
Just before heading up north for the xmas break and a bit of fishing with friends & family I was invited south for a Tahr hunt. As you can see we failed - that's not a Tahr.
On the walk-in to our chosen valley these two yearlings came bounding down the river flats just on the magic hour and a few quick shots later we had secured some meat and knew we were going to have heavy packs heading back out again. Stream crossings with a deer on your back is best attempted in daylight hours.
The fillets were magic on the bbq after marinating in olive oil for a few days and the failure of not getting a tahr and the pain of carrying the reds out was soon forgotten.
A few days later we headed north to explore a bit of the top of the south. Fishing for Kawahai at the Diversion, Blenheim over Christmas. The tides were all wrong, but we managed to have some fun on light tackle, just feeling the bite and knowing you've fooled a few small ones is sometimes satisfaction enough.
So was 2009 really a Failure, hell no ;D ;D best year of my life so far thanks to some great friends and a very understanding wife. Here's hoping that 2010 will be another great year for all outdoorsmen and women in New Zealand.
