Need help with 50-110
I now have my 1886el in 45/70 and was going to convert it to 50-110 but I wanted to use a heavy bullet 525grn to 535grn and have been unable to find a suitable bullet. The Woodleigh's and Bertram's are to long in the nose to cycle through the 1886.
I'm wondering if anyone knows any commercial bullet maker in Aust that has .510-.512 525grn+ suitable for a lever action.
Barnes heaviest is 450grn and $33 for 20

Are you going to use a "Green Mountain" barrel. They make ones that are already to fit to Winchesters. Only problem is the 1:54 twist which won't stabilise the 500gn.

I got a 500gn/.512 CBE mould that has a short nose but takes up a lot of powder space.

no I've already bought a MacGowan(Mc?) barrel something like a 1:16 twist
I really want 525grn plus bullet.
have been emailing back and forth with Tenring looks like something should happen there.

Thanks Shaun, is the 50 a .501 or .510? bullets for 50AE are only about .501

416SW,

What mould are they getting. The only one I know is the RCBS which suffers the "too much in the case syndrome"

Available from Midwayusa at $US90 http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/531543

I've got a CBE 512/520 that I have been making into bore riding nose by swaging the first two bands down to .500 in a 45/120 trim die. With this I can get a full 70gn of powder while the 450gn lyman is limited to 62gn. Rough as bags but the darn thing shoots into 3" at 100m.

It is being custom made for the casting machine and it will be a case full of lead because the 50-110 IN THE 1886 can only have about .4" sticking out of the case
will be flat nose design like typical lever action bullet, meplat about .32"

Yes I have got a gunsmith to do the work but he has not done this type of thing before and would not appreciate me telling people that he would do the conversion as he is not overly fond of lever actions. I'm committed now as he has already semi profiled the barrel.
PC may need a smith to do the conversion if he decides to go ahead with it do you know someone?
