Did you catch that monster Bakesy?

I hope you had someone backing you up with a suitable dangerous game rifle when you brought him aboard!

I bet there was some fun and games tying him up - who volunteered to put their foot on him while the string was attached? Or is that steel cable?

I've always thought crabs are all red. Amazing what you can learn, on this forum Smiler

Biologically impossible for a crab to sit on an unopened carton of beer, but nice to look at. Packhorse crays get to around 20-23 lbs down here. I will dredge up a good pic later tonight

Fallow Buck,
Depends on which state your in. In the Northern Territory they have to be (If I remember) 14cm across the shell for a male and 13 for female. In QLD you cannot take females.

Remmington270, they are sweet.

Bakes,

When i first had MC I couldn't believe how sweet the white meat was. there was a restaurant in Dubai called PepperCrab and it was their signiture dish. Like a stir fry with lots of Chiili and spices. I reckon it is the best crab I've ever eaten.

A lot of places in europe are now banning the harvest of female crab and the female lobster in berry too. There are always the unscrupulous guys out there but as a rule it is a good way to go.

Yes we love our mudcrab, I do like our sand crab as well although there isn't as much meat on them.

The reason the NT allows the taking of females is that (as I've been told) when they get over a certain size they do not mate and tend to fight with the males. Ironicaly it was the Queensland Dept of Primary Industry that did the study that discovered that and Queensland won't allow the taking of females. Go figure.
Here are some real photo's of some good size muddies.

Good grief those things look like they want to help themselves to a chunk of whoever is nearest. I'd swear the crab in the top photo is eyeballing the camera...just looking for a fight.

Sheeit. I thought those things actually had some size to them. Give me a pile of our local bugs anyday (one at this size will suffice) Wink

Don't want to tell ya'll how to conduct business, but here in Texas we do something often referred to as "horse tradin". Something I got for something my neighbor has that I want and they inturn feel good about tradin their junk for mine. Each party thinks they got one over on the other and they both feel good with the outcome.

Seems like ya'll need to horse trade mud crabs for lobsters!

I bet I could catch giant reddrum on a crab like that! Imagine the bass it would take to eat one of those oversize crawfish that guy in the wetsuit is holdin'! What I will dream about tonight!!
