Marmite Crisis
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...plies-run-weeks.html

I had no idea this was happening ,now you'll just have do do with venison !
I hope things have gotten repaired .It's rough having faults running through a major city .

I'm off to the local supermarkets & warehouses to buy up all the Marmite on the shelves & ship them across the ditch to make a killing.
I'll accept $30 a jar commissions.
or
trade a carton for a hunt.............He He

It'll be a cold day in hell before many will use Vegemite in NZ............being caught by their neighbors , with it in their kitchen, would be like wearing a green & gold football jumper when mowing the lawns, they would be shunned for months, years, might never be served a beer in the local pub again.

This is shocking!

I have never, ever, in my life tasted anything as foul and vile as marmite!

Sitting in a British pub discussing the local cuisine with the bar tender, he leaned over and whispered "...tis the spawn of the devil"

I have little doubt he was speaking the truth.

I prefer vegemite meself. I dont think there is even a jar of marmite in the house.

Vegemite might be made in Australia but its one of the better exports. At least it has a proper name , unlike the swill they export in bottles with XXXX on them cos its too embarrasing to call it beer......

The title of this thread should be "Marmite Celebration" not "Marmite Crisis".

Don't blame all of us in Oz for the misguided deeds of some of our northern brothers.

I can agree with you about the qualities of XXXX.

Its not that its embarrassing to call it beer, it is because they cannot spell beer.

Vegemite, looks like axle grease and going on the crap that has fallen on my face when servicing my Landcruiser, tastes very similar. Smiler (smiley face for those Aussies who believe I should be strung up for uttering such blasphemous words). Stuff it make it Smiler Smiler

Originally, they thought of calling Vegemite Pawill.

Yeast extracts are all a bit weird but add an interesting saltiness if you slice tomato on top.

I must admit my jar of Vegemite has seen only the sketchiest use since I ordered it. I'd make a poor honorary Aussie, I'm afraid.

Thats OK Bill.
I have to be in the mood for some "bite" to have Vegemite on my toast...........its more often candied honey that finds its way to the toast.

I spent 6 weeks in Portland last year and got to have a bit of a look around the Oregon country side. It would be a very easy decision to move to Oregon, beautiful place.

One of my favourite hot drinks is Marmite.

In Africa, I put a good size dolop of Marmite in a large mug, add some lemon or lime juice, and a bit of Tabasco!

Absolutely delicious!

MY PH Alan Vincent loves it too.

Our American friends hate it!

They think we are NUTS!

I suppose that is what one gets when one comes from a cultureless country! rotflmo

Sir,
I resemble that remark!
But I actually like marmite on toast.
Too salty for regular heavy intake, for those of us with high blood pressure,
unless working hard and sweating a lot.
But, nice, occasional treat.
A mug of marmite, Tabasco and lime juice in a mug of hot water would be a nice treat. tu2

But you will never get me to abandon the criss-cross style of knife and fork.
That is proper in USA CULTURE.
It is even allowed at the military academies,
and specified as so in the manual of "Service Etiquette."
That is "high culture" in the USA. hilbily

I have hade Vegemite at the Birdsville Race Days and it was ok. I have had Marmite on Rusks and love it. Found some here at a market in Denver....kids thinks I'm nuts for eating tar.

Never bothered with marmite, isnt it just vegemite with some sugar in it ? vegemite is ok but you have to spread it very thin ! Australian beer has been crap for about the last 15 or so years, thats why they export fosters because it tastes like dish water and no one wants it .Ive been in Vietnam for three weeks, one of the only good things about this place is cheap Saigon Beer and ''333'' which is heaps better than any Aussie Beer and cheap ! the one time, i couldnt wait to get back to Australia

Marmite, vegimite and Aussie beer. 3 things that never cross the threshold of my home, and never will.

If you want something worth eating or drinking with a dash of worcestershire sauce try Bovril. Hmmmm. .....Now we're talking tasty.

Isnt Bovril made from melted down cows?

I thought that was one of the carriers found in the transmission of Bovine Spongiform Encephalitus - Mad Cow Disease- to humans?

Don Hooker introduced me to marmite......someday I will forgive him. It was pretty vile. Haven't tried vegemite yet but i'm sure that's only a half a bottle of Bushmills from happening.
