I understand Vic. already limits multiple rifles of the same calibre.
No, not that I know of. I have multiple centrefire .224 & 30 cal rifles and even though I could justify them under the current rules, I have not been asked to by the Vic Police at any time.

MLGIn Queensland, I believe they will issue permits up to 3 of the same caliber - after that, please explain but I have not tested the theory.

robthomHere in the UK, we already have this system for each and every full & small bore rifle you own, or wish to own.

Mike375Just looking at a couple of Permit to Acquire forms I picked up from Horsley Park and in the section:
GOOD REASON TO ACQUIRE A FIREARM"To show good reason, you must explain on this form why you need a firearm in this particular category, and why, if other firearms are already held in this category, an additional firearm is required"
That looks like it has the potential to restrict both number of rifles and also calibre size etc.

muzzaOoopps - another reason not to emigrate . We dont need permits to purchase rifles or shotguns at all , only restricted stuff like handguns and military semi autos and full autos , but you cant have them either .
Signs of Big Brother moving against you again guys .

Bad Ass has. LOL

He gets a "please explain" nearly everytime he puts in a PTA.

SaeedCan't you guys apply for a "collector's" license?
Which I understand in certain countries gives almost an unlimited number of firearms that you can own.
I suppose the only downsize is the hefty charges involved.

Mike375Saeed,
To follow up on BAW's posting here is a response to the same thread I started on an Australian site.
To shoot all the matches would take 30+rifles plus a back up for each match.
That's 60+.
There was talk up here in QLD like that with pistols.Someone did the sums on all the different matches plus a backup, plenty of room.
The idea got dropped as unworkable. What that poster has said is fine BUT taking the guns shooting in the bush could be a problem.
I feel we are heading down the England road. In England I am told they can justify a 375 H&H for their "hunting" but no bigger. Probably 375/404, 378 Wby would be OK as all gov'ts seem to work on bullet diameter. They can own a 416 and bigger but only for rifle range use.
Somehow in Australia the people who are enthusiasts for anything that uses fuel whether it be cars, guns, model aeroplanes, boats or whatever have to form a group that is the counterpart of the Greens.
One thing I know for sure. Someone who is keen to have a big 4 wheel drive in the city would prefer to continue to be able to have his big 4 wheel drive and NO GUN LAWS as opposed to having GUN LAWS but no 4 wheel drive (without justification)
There must be some way to form a group. Actually it is not just things that use fuel but also hobbies such as keeping reptiles. The laws for keeping and buying etc reptiles is very similar to our GUN LAWS. Same pricniple at work.

Bad Ass WallaceIt's very complicated, you see you can have a colletors licence BUT you can't shoot them or keep ammo for them. Makes it difficult to collect 303's and shoot one also.
Similarly with any other calibre. You can have a pre 1900 dated firearm for which factory ammo is not commercially available without registering EXCEPT if you want to shoot it.

Bad Ass WallaceJust read today's paper, Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer is now classified as an explosive and requires a powder monkey's license.
There you have it; if you want big melons, get a licence or find one of these;

JALSure we will, we will cop more restrictions after any
shooting tragety, where the pollies want to look as though
they are useful.
The section about genuine reason etc. is only to test your
powers of creativity. Heck if that feller in the helmet
can keep getting more guns, anyone can.
