PeterCharge at Beersheba!
100 years ago, on October 31 1917 the men of the 4th. Brigade of the Australian Light Horse launched a cavalry charge against the Ottoman Turks and their German officers defending the town and associated water wells at Beersheba. The attack was successful and 2 months later, Allenby entered Jerusalem. About 6 months or so later, the Ottoman Empire was out of the war.
I think this is worth remembering.
Peter.

sambarman338Thanks Peter, yes, that was a memorable event for a couple of reasons. First, I think it may have been the last significant cavalry action anywhere in the world and is considered by some a turning point in the war, at least in the Middle East.
My great uncle/cousin was in the Light Horse but, I'm sorry to say, had been killed at Lone Pine on Gallipoli two years earlier.
