cr500Minimum rifle/barrel length in Australia
I,m building up a 300 whisper rifle for bit of fun and some hunting and want to build it fairly short and handy so my 42kg wife can use it. What is the minimum barrel length allowed in OZ and what is the minimum allowable total rifle length.

Depends on the state. Example: Qld has (had) 10" minimum. Vic has 16" but with a minimum overall length as well. NSW has one for rifles and a different one for shotguns.
And so on.
Where do you plan to hunt?

Sambar 9.3Not verbatim, but IIRC it is 18" for rifles and 20" for shotguns.
Your local police firearms guy
should know.

cr5009.3 Sambar. I had asked the local police, but they didnt know. They wanted to know why I wanted to know, and why I need a gun, why do I want one with a short barrel, what am I going to do with it etc etc etc.
18" sounds like a good length for me for this particular gun, though I usualy go for slightly longer than standard barrels in all my other guns.
Ah yes, never go to the police. Let them come to you.
