And the thread on this forum

Double Rifle Hunt in the Top End< !--color-->

This hunt is for double rifle enthusiasts but most clients bring their bolt actions or whatever they normally hunt with. Check out the thread for details.

I actually asked Alan Moon whether I hadn't overdone the charging bit and done a Mark Sullivan with it for scrub bulls but he said no.

He has been personally charged several times and recently when he was unarmed and only had a video camera. He raised a thread on NitroExpress.com about getting a handgun for protection when filming which of course in totalitarian anti-gun Aust is "buckleys".

He said for pig hunts he sometimes does not carry a rifle but ALWAYS carries a rifle when clients hunt scrub bulls.

He also mentioned the property owner has been flown out to hospital a couple of times after being charged.

I think in the areas he hunts you can get very close to the bulls and he said they will then charge unprovoked if they become aware of you. I think I will take my .450 Jeffrey double, just for fun of course .

I recently posted some pics HERE

I didn't have any really hairy moments hunting these guys. Just a good old fashioned stalk in to between 30-40 yrds for each one.

I guess all animals have a "fight or flight" safety zone. Where that is for scrub bulls I've no idea, but I wouldn't like to get that close without a pretty big cannon to back me up.

Nitro,
My one hunt certainly makes me no expert, but if you were to get up real close to one before he was on to you, I reckon the bigger the rifle I had the better!

3 of the 4 bulls I took were just off the edge of the scrub out feeding into a plain. I could get to the edge of the scrub OK but not much further without giving myself away. Things may have been completely different if I'd managed to sneak right up to 10 yards or so. Who knows what reaction I'd have gotten from the buls?
