A new rifle on the way!!

Feral_GozA new rifle on the way!!
A while back Easy Rollins (known then as Far Canel) was tormenting me via PM with a great picture of 3 lever actions. I tried to put it at the back of my mind, but the image kept on taunting me. So much so that when the opportunity arose, I finally gave in and sent off a PTA at the start of the month. Seeing as I have a bit of time until the red tape machine cranks out another one for me, I started to do some digging on what to get.
At the moment, I am zeroing in on a Marlin in .44 Magnum. Mainly for use in Western Action and maybe in the occasional hunt. I am torn between going for stainless or not. I like the pistol grip stock on the blued model, but have always been a bit partial to stainless. The stainless would go well with my Vaquero so that has the nod at the moment.
Is there anything I should know about the Marlin before I hand over some cash? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Easy Rollins, at first I thought you were just being mean to me and showing off. Took me a while, but I have realised that you had laid a cunning (and effective) plan with that picture. Thank you. Do me a favour please, don't send me any more rifle pictures.......for a while at least.
Thanks

Bad Ass WallaceI have a Marlin 'Cowboy' in 45 long colt that is just a magic shooter. If you want to hunt with it there are a far greater range of cast 45 bullets for 45LC than 44Mag. The 44 Mag,of course, has a greater range of heavy jacketed bullets.
Hold still varmint; while I plugs yer!
If'n I miss, our band of 45/70 brothers, will fill yer full of lead!

Feral_GozThanks BAW,
I figure on using lead for the range and jacketed if I can get it out on a hunt. Next time I'm at the gun shop I'll check out the range of lead and see what's available.

Feral_GozThanks for the info Hog Killer. I'll keep it in mind.
Where I live the temperature fluctuates pretty severely, so the stainless is a little less maintainance intensive.

Easy_RollinsAnd a very cunning plan it was.

Your choices may be easier as Marlin has dropped the pistol gripped .44 this year, unless you find one here as old stock.
You will not regret buying a Marlin.I would love a S/S version as the first thing I would do is strip it down and polish the $hit out of it.

Feral_GozEasy,
Went to order an 1894PG on the weekend. Found out yesterday that NIOA have 10 on back order. The guys in the store reckon it could be 4-6 weeks until any are available. Bit worried now that Marlin has dropped the model.
I can get a S/S model reasonably easy or the Cowboy with the octagonal barrel. The Cowboy is out of my price range right now.
I've got two other stores to check. If that doesn't pan out I'll wait the 4-6 weeks and see if I can scrouge the extra $$$ and go with the Cowboy.
Which one are you in the pic?

Easy_RollinsMorton,
The picture was taken at Murrumba PC at Caboolture-Nth/Brissie.Big Bad John(down the front)will be down your way with Bubba on Feb.14th for the Black Powder Shoot at Newtec.
Feral,
I'm not in that photo.

If you're a fair size(tall) get the Cowboy. If you are medium to short go the shorter models.I have lent my Cowboy to shorter guys(I'm 6')they don't seem to like it as much, too nose heavy and unwieldy.
HTH
Bad Ass Wallace second from left,I'm on the far right.Note the bloke in the middle holding his '87 Lever Shotgun.

Feral_GozThanks for the info Easy. I'm just shy of 6 foot so the Cowboy may be the one to get.

I have heard that a Asian country will make the lever shot guns and that then they will be more affordable any truth to this ??

BakesThe small arms factory in Lithgow were making the shotguns PC. They were the ones advertised in the mags for around $1200 or so. A mate that was working on them told me they had trouble with the actions bending comming out of the moulds. So they made the actions bigger to allow more machining to make them straight. This proved to be not cost effective and the project was scrapped.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Feral_GozThe permit to acquire turned up during the week. Dropped into another gun store and walked out with a Marlin 1894PG is .44 Mag. Only problem was that they didn't have any ammo in stock for it.

I also ordered a set of dies from Grafs last month for it. Gotta be happy with a less than 7 day turn around ( 2 of those with customs). I've had it take weeks to get a set from the store.
Going pistol shooting tomorrow so may take it with me for a few shots.

Easy_RollinsNothing wrong with the 44,it can be loaded very light with 231 and 200gn pills. The PG was only made for one year so it will become collectable in a few years.Marlin have dropped the Cowboy in 38/55 this year so I'll be hanging onto mine now.
Regards,Shaun.
