thornellPlaces to visit near Darwin
I will be leaving for a buffalo hunt on june 3rd. We have arranged to have a few extra days in Darwin before leaving for home. I was just wondering from some of you guys who may live in Darwin, or some who have been there what exactly is a must see. I know this trip will be a great experience but I would love to visit some other points of interest while I am there. Any help will be greatly appreciated to make the most of this trip.

NitroXTop End:
Touristy stuff.
Kakadu, including a "Yellow Waters" dawn and/or evening boat cruise. Walk along the East Aligator River, visit some Aboriginal cave paintings. Visit some of Kakadu's waterfalls.
Adelaide River "jumping crocodile" boat cruise.
Barramundi Fishing;
Katherine River Gorge, full day boat and walking tour.
Go for some swims in 'safe' lakes and waters near Katherine.
A week of pig hunting, and maybe other ferals.
Have a dip at the hot springs at Mataranka. Watch out for flying fox shit.
A lot of these things can be done by hiring your own vehicle and some 4WDs come well equipped wit gear.
Central Australia (NOT near Darwin but good to fly to for three days):
Ayers Rock (Uluru) and the Olgas.
Kings Canyon and various other canyons.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

BushchookThe view of the harbour sunset from the balcony at the Saville Park Suites .
The view of the female backpackers from that Irish pub in the middle of town was pretty good too .
The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

Sitting watching the fruit juice bar across the road from "Rourkes Drift" beer garden on a warm afternoon is also quite entertaining.
When I retire I am going to open a fruit juice bar in a tropical location, maybe Far North Queesland. Fruit for the girls, candy for me.

Not sure, why? Never been there.

A famous outfitter once told me all the girls in Darwin are prostitutes. Twit! Then a couple of days later I was walking behind two very pretty normal looking girls and one asked the other "I have run out of condoms tonight, can I have some of yours?"

Maybe!

The Zoo or Territory Wildlife Park is also worth a half or full day if you have time.
