KarlBuying rifle from NZ
I don't post much anymore but just asking on behalf of an Australian shooter who is interested in buying a certain lever action firearm from NZ to import to Australia.
Reason being there are no stock currently in Australia and importers no ETA on any new imports.
I have gotten firearms from the USA before but not sure what to advise regards getting them from NZ to Australia- or as to whether its harder/easier?
Is it even possible to fly in and pick it up with the right paperwork in advance?
Thanks for any replies.

RockdocBetter to line up paperwork and pick it up.
Cost me a fortune to import from there and would have been easier and cheaper to go there.

muzzaCertainly be easier to come for a weekender and take the firearm back with you as luggage. That way you can have all the paperwork at your end done in advance , cos the import paperwork will be far more difficult than the export paperwork from here.
Good luck, keep us informed

NakihunterNZ does not issue export permits for firearms. No regulation at all!
If hunting overseas, you just take the list of guns to the firearms office and apply for an import permit and have it endorsed as re-import after hunting overseas. It is very simple.
An Aussie who wants to take the gun back there needs the following
1. Aussie import permit
2. NZ visitor firearm license (temporary)

RockdocThe cost of paying freight forwarder and permits into Aus plus, if the total costs including freight etc is greater than $1000AUD you pay tax means it is easier to pick it up.
Cost me a bundle to bring in a nice rifle a few years ago, should have picked it up.
