A friend of mine was recently getting rid of some old ammo with an old 303 diving powerhead, and he noticed some of the bullets 'looked different'. Miked it and yep, 303-25.

After war 2 there was an interest in necking the 303 to 25 cal. It was a big hit in OZ according to Parker Ackley. When I tried to play with it however here stateside, chambering reamers + dies were not available. I did the next best thing with I had available in the U.S. I built a 25-Krag (same bolt face of the 303 + 30-40 Krag; no alterations)on a Martini action. Damber near-identical ballistics. You will need to build your own lightweight pull trigger as I did + to the best of my knowledge, there are none offered for the Martini.

Normanconquest, I had forgotten PO Ackley mentioned the 303-25, I used to have a couple of his load books. Many years ago I tried to contact him- as a young man investigating big game wildcats. This was pre-internet and being from a small country town my only option was scouring what manuals or articles I could find, including dialling faded US phone numbers in the middle of the night due to the time difference. I did track Ackley down to an address at one point to be told I called too late, he died a decade earlier.

I run an Enfield 303/25, a No.4 in 303/270 and have a barrel and shells for a 303/22, Just have to find a P14 action at the right price.

It's a funny story; I bought the rifle just for the action but after loading and shooting a few rounds fount it to be very accurate, under MOA with Sierra 90gn HPBT's. I took it deer hunting and bagged two stags at about 140m and 200m.

Over the chrony, and the front locking P14 action almost equals my 257 Roberts.

BTW, I'm developing high velocity loads with powder coated 100gn cast bullets.

Wondering if any of these .25-303s are the version developed by Ellwood Epps, the Canadian gunsmith. This thread made me think of him for the first time in a long time.

I had one way back when on a single shot Savage mod. 219..It shot pretty darn good, and I didn't have a chronograph back then and figured it was a 25-06, but in fact my loads later on proved to be closer to factory 257 or 250 Savage loads, but no flys on those loads..I never shot a big game animal with it..It was however a fun gun with a Weaver 330 scope on running jack rabbits, and Javalinas..
