Powder Availability
Its been a while since I had to buy any.
Just wondering what stocks of foreign powders are on our shores currently.
IMR's?Reloader? Vihtavuori?

Thanks,
Karl.

I,m pretty sure Vihta Vouri is still available from
"DW Custers" and I have heard that reloader powders are being bought in now as well. Cant remember who by though.

Thanks cr500.

By the way, anyone know what the use-by-date is of powders that have been opened and stored for some time. Is 4 or 5 years out of the question?

I came back to my hometown this year and noticed one 4 KG tin of my AR2209, packed in 1999 has a much stronger acetony type odour than a smaller tin packed last year.

I don't like powders to smell different.Time to turf?

If you get a rusty coloured powder/mist coming out of the tin I would not use it. I have used powders that were more than 10yrs old. Would be careful if load was near max. Have not used old adi powder, you could try emailing them and asking.

I jumped in and used it. Worked okay

If your sense of humour is turned on (Karl)
how would a Mil type "know" it worked OK.
But anyway, I think?? all powders deteriorate
in the "safe" direction. A lot of unburnt
granuls in the bore may indicate something funny going on.
And best of luck to anyone expecting an answer
to an email to ADI. (I think they're having
a few wee problems with boats and things at the
moment.)

Actually, it's quite the reverse. The deterioration releases nitric acid, which accelerates further deterioration. Even to the point where spontaneous combustion occurs.

So whats cheery about that?
And anyway, with this spontanious Combustion
thing, what is the burning rate is the burning
question.
As Karl is the tester, maybe he can just cut
back on the load abit and keep us informed.
While we are still hearing from him, all is well.

JAL, rest assured my sense of humour activates immediately whenever idiots are around. They may always address me safe in that knowledge. Big Grin

On the powder, what Gadge said is similar to what I thought correct.
And this stuff turned out OK.
83gns of AR2209 behind a 270gn woodleigh in a 375H&H. A good feral cat load Wink

Cheers,
Karl.

Well, Gadge is intitled to his opinion, even
if he is right.
However, I have never even heard of tins of
powder going up. Some powders I've used were
older than I was. Some that smelt "funny" didn't
blow up and I've never heard of anyone blowing
up by using "old" powder.
So where some of these experts are maybe right,
sometimes their so far outside of reality that
their knowledge is practically useless.
Um, re idiots, well your ADI stuff is probably
OK, but do you KNOW that its performance was
not degraded just a bit maybe?
Like if you need at 375 whatever for pussys
maybe somethings a bit slack. :-)

About needing a 375 for feral cats ,something must be slack. I think he could be a bit slack in the manhood department. Any real man would at least use a 458 Lott with 250 gn open nose bullets for cats. Wink

Sympathy please ,I have champagne tastes and beer budget

JAL
Now your talking, just read about that cal
in Rifleman Mag.
And I'm glad to see someone who is humane to
puddys.

I know. I know .But I assure you it gets very hard once I start blowing cats to pieces. Which is why I enjoy it so much. Big Grin Big Grin

Cr500, considering the sarcastic wit in your post(which some were too stupid to pick up on) I feel you'd agree a 585 with 900gn softpoints would suffice for manhood related affirmation.Cool
However I can also accomadate with a booted stomp on animals caught in a trap, drowning in large quantities by way of bag, and the old favourite poisoning. Big Grin

Now all we need is a certain poster to be able
to pick up on some obvious irony. Roll Eyes

Well' JAL', I certainly picked up on a funny smell a couple of weeks ago. But you wouldn't budge for me at the time.

It appears three posts this time has you trolling on every thread.

Tsk! Tsk Tsk!.You were doing so well while you were ignoring me, but I knew you couldn't resist. Wink

Now you will have us wondering whether a retired guy from 'Australia', who comes apart so fast, is really the full quid.

Karl,
For goodness sake STOP sniffing your 2209,
it's not doing you anygood at all.
And no arguments from me about being an Idiot,
and I'm certainly comming apart, my kids tell
me the same thing.
So, have you anything new re shooting or reloading to contrubute? Anything interesting
I mean.
John (Silly Old Fart) Handsome though.

Much better JAL, John L with kids and a dog named anzac etc.

Pity this sites second rate Axel/Poseur troll dissappeared or you could get some tips off him on how to do it properly. Wink
Unfortunately you would have missed him. He dissappeared shortly before you registered.
