finnwolf64Reason for my question is i was thinking of buying a cabin in Alpine Victoria, but since i live in Sydney buying in NSW would make more sense because of accessability. Without giving away any hunting secret spots, what areas in nsw have good numbers of sambar? I had heard of sightings around Thredbo, but since we cant shoot in national parks in nsw, I was trying to locate a different area.

gryphon1anywhere over the murray, all through the park and non park...north of Sydney and west of course. Sambar are such secretive deer that many people dont even know they are in their midst.
I have taken deer on private property where landowners didnt even know they were coming in.
Remember the first sightings of sambar around Canberra were in the early `70`s, as reported by Arthur Bentley imagine where they are now....find the tucker = find the deer!

Bob from down underI've seen Sambar along the Putty road by Howes valley. Nearly hit one with my car last year. It looked to be a big bugger.
