BakesThey must think we are stupid
Went into a gunshop today to get some cleaning stuff. While there I asked about a fixed 4x scope for my young blokes .22. The bloke behind the counter showed me a 3-9 bushnell for $130.
"Bit of an over kill mate, its only a .22" Says I
"Well no one makes fixed powers anymore" Says he
"Oh ok then, no worries" Says I and thank him as I walk out with my bronze brushes.
Now I know I can get fixed 4x from Optic zone for $40 US. Christ I can get the same scope he showed me for about $80 US.

No one makes fixed powers anymore.....my arse.

RaySenderoBakes,
A 4x scope for a center fire rifle may not work very well on a 22LR! The CF scopes are usually set parallax free at 100 yards - Where as a rimfire scope is set parallax free at 25 to 50 yards.
To put a CF scope on a 22LR it needs to have an Adjustable Objective (AO) lens to adjust the parallax out at 25 to 50 yards. Most 4X CF scopes I find don't have a AO! Think that's why you'll see 22LRs with 3x9 w/ AOs.
Now if you can find a 4X scope made for a rimfire rifle it will be set correct for the shorter distance.

buffybrI've had a Tasco 3x9 CF scope on my Rem 512 for over 20 yrs. I also have a Simmons 3x9 CF scope on my Rem 541-T. For the casual plinking and limited small game hunting that I do, both scopes have worked fine.

Von GruffI think ypu will find very few have a dedicated rimfire scope on thier rimfires. I have a 2-7 Loopy on my Kimber and have no problems with paralax. I have even managed a .25in 50 yd group so fail to see where the longer paralax setting of CF scope has been a handicap. Having a paralax set for 50yds and shooting at 150 is more of a concern than having it set for 150 and shooting at 50.

Kamo GariI've got a fixed 4x Burris on my CZ 452. It kills nicely all around. Tomorrow I am going to (re)introduce its capabilities to the NH squirrel population, as the season opens in the morning. Fooking unreal how any store owner would choose to employ people who, in their ignorance, cost the business money, as in your case, Bakes. Yet it happens every day. Go figure!

I'm in agreement with Von Gruff as to the parallax problem.
Nikon makes a pretty fine 4x rimfire scope with parallax set at 50 yards that can usually be had for less than $100.00 U.S.
For a tad more money the Nikon 2x7x32 shotgun scope has parallax set at 75 yards, as do most other shotgun scopes.
If cost is a factor, just look at the less expensive shotgun scopes. The parallax is usually set from 60 to 75 yards. Like Von Gruff said, it should actually be better for all around shooting than a designated 22 lr scope!

BakesThats the thing, I did a bit of looking around on the net and did find some 4x rimfire scopes. What pissed me off is this guy thinking I don't know what I'm after and lying to me. If I walk into a shop and ask for a fixed power scope then I want a fixed power scope! Whew got that off my chest

gbangerBakes, I've had an even worse experiance. I went into a custom gun maker's shop. He had another guy hanging around that I couldn't tell was an employee or customer. I asked him about my CZ ring problem. I wanted lower rings to be able to get my cheek down on the comb. Instead of saying he couldn't help me in front of the other guy in the store, and possibly loosing some kind of "master" status, he chose to belittle me for wanting rings any lower than the experts at CZ had furnished with the rifle. Not being satisfied with that, he asked me "why do people use bubble levels on scopes?" I had seen devises for making sure your cross hairs were square when mounting so I answered so. "No!" he said in very self satisfied way, "they use them for long range matches to make sure they are holding their rifles true." Hell, I came in talking about my 9.3x62. The ignorant prick knew damn well I wasn't going to use that rifle at a 1000 yards. I left thinking I wouldn't hire him to wipe a dog's arse.

muzzaI have had a 6x40 fixed power scope on my main .22RF for more than 20 years now . Its used mostly for spotlighting bunnies and possums and is a damn good scope for that . It is a bit overkill for daytime use tho - but the day I wanted a 4x scope the gunshop didnt have any in stock so they sold me the 6x for the same price.
My other motly selection of .22s have either 4 power or 3-9x32 scopes , all of which do the job adequately , and I also dont have paralax problems with any of them

I've got a Deadeye for leveling scopes to the rifle.
Its a champion tool my mates use it as well.
Hey Gbanger maybe use him as paper to wipe your dog's freckle.
Regards,
Bob.

BakesI don't understand that sort of attitude Gbanger. I hate the smugness of some gunshop people. And you can tell what they are going to be like as soon as the open their mouths

wirehuntWell I reckon it's a great joke. When some clown (ME) can walk into a shop and know more about the product on the shelves than the staff then you've got to laugh, or else you'll cry instead. The one that is the craziest of the lot though is when the shop owner doesn't know shit.....
Happy hunting

BakesWirehunt,
I walked into a gunshop in Darwin and asked for some 7mm mauser ammo. The lady behind the counter gave me a box of 7mm Rem Mag ammo. Nope Say I thats the wrong stuff, there it is pointing to a box that says 7x57. She says, is that the same? Yes I reply. She says I'll just ask the gunsmith. He comes out and she asks if 7mm mauser is the same as 7x57?
Now what for it.....he says......I don't know...what does it say in the book

I kid you not! I made a mental note NOT to bring any guns to this bloke to look at.
