sambarman338GPS reliability
I want to buy a map-showing GPS for our tahr hunt in June but can't make up my mind which one to get.
Being a late starter in these things, I'm interested in getting a touch-screen model such as the Garmin Dakota 10 or 20 but have stumbled on forums where posters had trouble with the D 20.
Also, I'm not impressed with the price of Garmin
maps and wonder how hard it is to access others compatible with these models.
Any thoughts, anyone? I've tried similar questions on the AR backpack hunters' forum, but no one there has responded.
Cheers

sambarman338Thanks Nakihunter,
I've spent some time there and even looking at Cabela's owner reviews. Will continue looking, to try to get a handle on it all.

UltraMagsambarman you might wanna look into the Garmin Astro handheld. Its not a touch screen but very user friendly. We use it for boar hunting in Hawaii and I know that its being used in NZ.
Might not be what youre looking for but just thought i'd let you know so you can make a decision for yourself.
Ive been using it for years now since it was introduced so if you have any questions id be glad to help.
Aloha!

sambarman338Thanks UltraMag,
so far my googling Garmin Astra has only brought up a dog-finding GPS. But maybe that's the EPIRB answer: I could put on the collar and the guys would know where to look for me if I didn't come back

Glad to hear the real story, of course.
