Possible new #1 Banteng

larryshoresPossible new #1 Banteng
I am in the middle of a hunt with Karl Goodhand of Goodhand Outback Adventures.
Yesterday, I shot a banteng that will exceed the current #1 by a couple of inches if the measurements hold. While I am not into that type of thing, I will register it to help Karl.
I also shot 18 hogs in one day with my 416.
Buffalo is next.
Hell of a good operation.

SaeedGreat to hear this!
But, how many hogs WITH I SHOT?
I think I got 4-5 warthogs with one shot!

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Saeed, they were all running. I fired 24 rounds. I remember 4 shots fired to finish wounded animals. I remember a single miss with certainty. I am simply not certain about the remaining shot.
I love that 416!

Brandon.GleasonCongratulations, Larry! I was excited to see this on Facebook a few days ago. I was wondering how long it would take to filter onto here! Looking forward to the rest of the details when you return.
Safe hunting and travels.

Beretta682EI would go to Australia and hunt Banteng. The buff there do little for me. But this Banteng has me seriously interested.

sambarman338Looks formidable. I seem to recall that saladang can be dangerous; are banteng?

georgeldThat's a monster, congrats!
Just one question to verify:
Are you standing up back there?
It looks like it.
Thanks for sharing with us.

#1 with SCI?
Which makes me wonder.... do they have an "estate" category for feral animmals?

CougarzVery good, congratulations.
Looks like you're having lots of fun!

Yes , I am told they can be. Further , when they decide to become a problem, they are fast. VERY fast!

Mike:
You should rethink the buff . I shot one today. They are TOUGH!
To make a long story short:
>shot buff in the chest at less than 100 yards with a 416. He runs.
> we see blood that is clearly lung blood.
> we follow about 1.5 miles. We got up to him 3 times. I shot as he ran off. He was full of holes. He just kept going.
>I was down to my last round . I lost some rounds while running after this bull. At 75
Yards, I put my last round square through the shoulders . He just stood there ! A minute or so later, he fell. When we got up to him and saw all of the holes, we could not believe it. Not a single shot exited.
These things are tougher than hell .

Yes, SCI.
I have no interest in the record book. I have no idea about the estate question. Mine was free range.

CougarzThat's one trip I'd like to make someday for water buffalo and banteng.
Could you post a few more photos when you get a chance?
PS. I for one don't see anything wrong with registering an animal in the record books. The original intention of record keeping was to honor a great animal for posterity.
Like anything a few will try to make it into a personal thing. We have all seen that but as long as it's kept in perspective all is good.

I will record this one to help Karl. I have no problem with the record book per se. I have a problem with the behavior of some of those wanting the maximum number of entries or those that hunt for the book.

BushchookNice bull. Do you know what he measures? This one was shot by a mate and measures 71.5.
Certainly a great hunting experience being up there.
The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

The outfitter measured him. It was not an exact measurement as we were in the Bush without the proper tools. He also did it in a conservative manner to be safe meaning it should score higher. I have forgotten the exact number. The outfitter says it exceeds the current number 1 by about 3 inches. IIRC it was between 83 and 84.
A master messurer will be looking at it soon. Perhaps as early as today.

Todd WilliamsNice Banteng Larry. Between that one and the buff, not to mention the pigs, you're having a hell of great time.
AnotherAZ, you've just been having a HELL of a time. Between the tick bite fever and now the dog bite! Sorry to hear your hunts have gone this way lately. I hope they got you taken care of and you're on the mend!

I know. Brutally bad luck. On the other hand, I am fortunate to get to go. But if my face turns out to be permanently numb it won't be worth it. Hopefully the numbness will fade away faster than I will.
But you know, it makes me think...that dog took a big chunk from my face - imagine what a leopard would do. I won't be so nonchalant in the future.

My dau lives in Canberra and goes to Gympie often. Shook her when I told her about it.
Hope you heal well and soon.

I spoke with Tony (Bakes) Thurs night at dinner and he said that breed of dog is really protective. I had been around him for two days without issue, but when I poked my head in the back of the car to grab my boots, he bit me viciously (he was lying in the back, and I poked my head in looking for my boots).

Take care of those wounds brother. Best of luck on the hunt. It was great to finally meet you.

Dogs can be incredibly strong and have brutal bites. What triggers them is often difficult to handicap.
