Bill/OregonFoster's sells to SABMiller
I know some of the mates here have characterized Foster's Lager as "a fizzy drink for oiks," but I see your government has approved its sale to a company that truly brews fizzy drinks including Miller, an American lawn-mower beer. I'm just glad your government forced SABMiller to keep brewing operations and jobs in Australia. I wish to hell our government would be half as sensible.
Happy Thanksgiving.
There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

muzzaI always thought Fosters was made famous by Barry MacKenzie back in the 1970's.
Cant say I have ever been a fan of actually drinking the stuff....

DenisBFosters was the best joke ever played by Aussies on the rest of the world.
It sold on perception, not reality as a great beer in Aussie tastes.

None of the stuff being made overseas is made in Australia now anyhow. It is only fosters by name.
There was a tiume when real fosters was quite popular here... back in the 80's.

DenisBVery true Matt
the blue can is just a world brand & not even a world beer or an Aussie beer flavour & bite ........its brewed to different local tastes in each country its manufactured & marketed in.
The initial marketing blitz in OZ got people interested in trying it , but it did not keep their interest. it certainly didn't keep mine, I've not bought another since the case i bought back in the '80's.......He He.......too damn sweet to be refreshing after working up a sweat.
Fosters & Millers make a good match
Millers was/is a wishey-washey beer without much 'character' too.
"fizzy drink for oiks" is a pretty good description.

Those conditions are always only "lip service" and within about twelve months if not earlier the new company bosses will start to sack people all over the place.
Happens always after takeovers, irrespective of what promises or conditions are made, before a takeover is approved.
Thankfully the wine division was hived off a while ago.

NitroXThe only time I drank Fosters was in 1983 when travelling in the NT and Northern WA, where the choice was Fosters, or Swan Gold which was even worse.

muzzaBut doesnt anyone remeber that Classic Australian Movie - " The Adventures of Barry MacKenzie" form the 1970's?
I thought that was what made Fosters famous - well , world famous in Aussie at least...
