Handgun hunting?
Hi all,

I've never visited either Australia or New Zealand but am envious of your hunting opportunities! I was just curious if either country allowed hunting with handguns of a suitable calibre? It seems as though sport shooting with handguns is permitted (IPSC etc) which came as a pleasant surprise.

Cheers!

Hi Matabele,
Speaking for NZ, no chance of handgun hunting here, sorry.
Our Firearms laws are fairly sensible in regard to rifles but handguns while owned here are strictly regulated and useage quite restricted. Handgun hunting is not permitted.

Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Sorry, as far as I know there is no handgun hunting allowed in Australia......the gumbyment still thinks we're the same convicts that were transported here two hundred odd years ago Mad Frowner thumbdown

Your gumbyment knows a thing or two Big Grin

Now seriously, I thought some handgun hunting was permitted in the Northern Territory, seem to recall seeing some hunt reports where handguns were used, maybe completely wrong on this though.

There are several outfitters located in the N.T that have a small selection of handguns registered to their company's Corporate Firearms Licence which allows clients the opportunity to hunt with those handguns whilst they are hunting with that outfitter.

Thanks for filling me in gents, pity there isn't more freedom to use handguns in the field. I was lucky enough to do a bit of handgun hunting in Zimbabwe before the wheels came off and it was great fun. A bit like bowhunting as you have to get close, but greater precision... and a lot less to tote!

I have been told the laws in NT are a bit "grey" when it comes to handgun hunting, so a few outfitters have offered it given the demand from US clients.

Probably the most visible handgun hunting in Aus was Lynn Thomson, owner of "Cold Steal", including this video: https://www.opticsplanet.com/c...-down-under-dvd.html

The intro to that Down Under hunt sounds
much like Mark Sullivan crap.
