Equinsu OchaCamel Hunting (culling)??
Guys, I am seroiously kicking the idea around of doing a buff hunt up in the north country with a good mate of mine who is running a big station in the Katherine area SE of Darwin.. Besides the buff, there are alot of pigs and feral donkeys to shoot around there. But I am more interested in trying to get south and do a day or 3 of camel hunting if at all possible.
If at all possible guys, fill me in on what it takes to get in a few days of "trophy" camel hunting. Who does it, what's it cost, best times, can the trophy be exported along with the buff, etc..
It looks like if I do decide to make the buff hunt a reality, I'll be there around the 1st week of June. Good time?
I read an article by Scott Haugen here in the States years back on camel hunting and it looked FUN and I've wanted to do it ever since!! Those big bulls had a skull on them that rivaled an African lion in size of canines!
Any AR regulars done it and have any pics to share?
Thanks, gents.

TOP_PREDATORSome mates on going on Camel shoot next week ill photos and details when they return.
I was quoted $3000 for one Camel by Outfitter i hunted Buffalo back in 2006.
I can't see you having any problems exporting any part of a Camel

scruffyI have wanted to whack a camel for years . I also read that article by Scott Haugen. But I doubt if I shall bring one back to get stuffed.

Although that skull would be very impressive.

I hunted buffalo with Top Predator and he knows that I need a camel .. So there are two of us interested .. for sure.

Equinsu OchaSo is the Oz gov't really going to go in and cull some 800k camels from the outback in Jan 2010 as I've read? If so, that might have quite the negative imapct on one's plans to take an old bull or 2 from out there, now wouldn't it???
If that is true, it would seem that June of next year would be a day late and a dollar short, so to speak..

Equinsu OchaDoes any of the Aussie locals on here know who a gent by the name of Paul Convery is? He is a taxidermist and runs some hunts as well..He is out of Adelaide. He has quoted me a price for a camel hunt next year on a private place in the northern reaches of South Aus on some big station out in the desert.. He offered me a big bull, a couple of cows and any of the other ferals (dingos, donkeys, etc) thrown in gratis. 5 day hunt, all inclusive, stay in the bunkhouse at the shearing quarters on the property.
In our conversations over email, he said they have been 100% for the last 10yrs on the place.
On their website, they have alot of successful pics of some big bulls they've taken off the place..
I'm just seeing if anyone one here knows the gent and could maybe vouche for him. Seems legit, but in this day and age, it's better to err on the side of caution first before commiting to someone whom I've never met of heard of. As they say, "once bitten, twice shy."
Thanks guys!
Here is the gent's website.

RBHuntI hunted camels with Paul Convery last year. I got a big bull camel on the first day. It was a fun hunt and different from anything I have ever done. That desert area is as tough as nails.

BakesSorry Scottyboy never heard of him. If you get no replies from the members here try Australian Hunting net.com, you may find someone there that has heard of him.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

BushchookNever hunted with Paul but have read articles written by those who have . Reports were positive .
The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.
