Badger MattTalk to me about a fishing/hunting combo trip...in June
My father and I are considering a trip to NZ, perhaps as early as this June. He's heard about the trout fishing and loves to travel. I'm a died in the wool hunter who enjoys spending time with his father and we both enjoy wine and time around a fire.
My father and I are both retired military. He's got a wonderfully flexible schedule, but I'm now a high school teacher and June is my best bet for a trip.
What options do we have in June? It looks like some good mountain game for me (been interested in Chamois since I saw them decades ago mountain climbing in Austria), but dad might be in for a rough/cold time trout fishing.
Any issues with trophy export/import?

ozhunterJune is closed season for river trout but lakes are ok with Lake Wanaka and Hawea being surrounded by Red Deer and Chamois country.
If you can, try for late March, Particularly if your farther Fly Fishes. It's a great time for that pursuit along with chasing Chamois.
A pair of Chamois taken above Trout water.

wazza56best bet do a search of the NZ fishing rules, some rivers and most lakes will be open, hunting will be just a bit harder in winter and depends on what you want to chase. and whether north or south island, go to fishnhunt.co.nz and post on that forum, some very helpfull guys on there for both fishing and hunting
have a merry xmas

BulltahrJune is a great month for hunting, Tahr are in mid-rut. Most of the rivers are closed, but there are canals and lake fishing. The canals can produce some real monster fish, 20lb plus is possible.
