George's back surgery report

georgeldGeorge's back surgery report
Just wanted you guys to know I made it thru that ok and am back home already.
Staff just wouldn't let me sleep. Don't think I got three hrs in any one of the five nights there.
I'd been walking the halls much more than expected and doing well with it. Friday morning I made 550' the PT gal wrote down. Then the doc came in and I unloaded all over him about not getting any rest etc. That I wanted to come home so I could rest up and would do all the walking needed to get over this soon as I can. He saw it my way and wrote out the release n some scripts for meds. Sis came up Sat morning and brought me home.
Am hurting a lot of course, but, doing well, resting up etc and still walking plenty. Have home care set up starting tomorrow. Mostly to help get my socks n shoes on for when she's gone I can get things done and get going etc as needed. So far driving don't seem to be much of a deal other than getting my left foot in the door is harder but, I make that in a few.
Troubling part is it don't seem the drop L foot has been helped yet. Do believe I have more feeling in the bottoms of both feet than before. Hopefully, these other things will get better as it heals up.
Remember, this was fusion's of the bottom four lumbars. One was a redo that didn't take the way it should back Nov '05. Plates on both sides about 5-6" long I'm guessing with six or eight lag bolts per side. As much as was done, I'm not in as much pain as the single fusion back in '05 was for months. I just hope this will help matters as the way it has been the past two yrs is no way I want to live with.
Thanks much, it's just one week today from when the surgery was done. 8am MTN/usa Tuesday 30th.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

DenisBBest of luck with your recovery George
90 days of patient rehab is the benchmark period for nerve recovery after swelling from injury & the corrective surgical procedure.
Don't overdo it in the intervening period.Excessive exercise during initial recovery resulting in stress of the previously injured area is the major cause of poor back surgery outcomes. Getting basic mobility post op is important.........but forgoing for the next 90 days, more stressful ( but more enjoyable aspirational activities ) is the best investment you can make in your future physical capabilities .
Best Wishes

HomerOzG'Day Fella's,
Good to hear the Op went well George! Get well and out and about hunting again soon!
I've been thru similar spinal fusion at the other end of my spinal column (Cervical), and was very luck to have a great surgeon operate on me.
FYI, I have 11 separate spinal (Cervical, Thorax and Lumbar) injuries, which can make life challenging at times but I never let these things, get in the way of me achieving my dreams!!!
Regards
Homer

georgeldHomer:
As you know well just hanging in here is tough
as hell at times.
Doing real good the first ten days or so. Then a biting pain in the L hip, down the leg started a few days ago. Today it's more mid leg and left the hip n back area now.
PT called the dr yesterday and was told to get me to back off the walking a few days and see how it does. So, I'm back to napping half the time. Beats sitting on my butt reading in pain all the time.
I'm gonna fool 'em all one of these days and make it back again.
Thanks guys,
George

DoglegHow long before you can start your recoil therapy?
19 October 2014, 10:13
georgeldI've already been out with it twice. Once before, once after.
Do believe I have it halter broken already. Did everything other than a brake and with a light load of 90gr 7828/ 250gr it's about like a nice shooting '06 for recoil. Almost need wheels on it though, 13# 8oz empty. As heavy as it is and slow as I am I won't be winning any foot races I'm sure. But, I should be able to shoot it 100rnds a day.
That's what you wanted to hear, right? Two more surgeries coming up soon. 'nother dick reaming and the other shoulder rebuild yet. Both soon as I can get 'em done. Then hopefully I can stay outta those places awhile.
Just had to tinker the other day and made that sock puller thing rather than pay china $30 for it.
