BakesThat got the heart going
Went down the back to check the chickens yesterday, heard a noise in the grass...look down and yep a little brown snake. I did the "holy Crap two step" and the bugger went straight through my legs into the long grass behind me.

Von GruffI thought for a minute your post was going to be about the Silver Ferns V Diamonds last night as that did get the heart rate up but a snake in the grass will do it as well.

NakihunterJust reading that made my stomach churn and my sphincter twitch!
I have had similar experience with a cobra in India during my Tea Planting days. I was walking along a track next to a hedge row while supervising tea plucking & stopped in the sun. Then I heard this rustling below and saw this 6 foot cobra coiled at my feet and slowly moving away! This has happened to me more than once!

eagle27Yes we can be eternally grateful that New Zealand broke away from the Aussie continent before it was overrun with snakes and thank god they preferred to stay with the Aussies. We will have the sheep any day

DenisBWhen the snakes start to move about you know that winter has truly broken .
Hard slogging 'Off-Piste" in the rainforest around the cabin last weekend...........4 hrs to travel <3Km ).......serious jungly stuff with lots of 'wait-a-while' vine, saw a neighbour traversing the opposite side of a fenced habitat protection area tread on something that squirmed unseen in heavy undergrowth & led to a succession of 2-steps followed by a succession of almost breathless oaths.
I escaped with a dozen wait-a-while scars (which are healing nicely thank you) and one tick , fortunately found pre-bite ( for once).

I dunno - luckily the spiders here keep them under control.
