NT Hunt April/May?
Hi all

Myself and a mate are planning to be in the NT in late April or early May for a fishing trip and we are also thinking of doing some hunting - pigs and maybe other ferals. Is late April too wet for good hunting? What options would you recommend?

Sort of. The grass will be very tall and there will be water in every hole in the ground. That will spread the game out.

What is the hunting like as you move south from Darwin?

Much the same till you get past Mattaranka, thats 400km south.

IMHO June 1st is a good start date to avoid any dissapointment... anywhere in the NT, where there are numbers of pigs. In 2006 we coldnt get into one of our properties until 1st July because a river was too high from very late rain. As Bakes says once yo go past Mataranka it can open-up earlier but theres not too many piggies.

Cheers
Matt

Hi all

Thanks for the great input. If the pig numbers are lower as you move further south (for earlier access) what alternate species are there?

Thanks

Camels and cats. I've heard rabbits and foxes stop around Tennent Creek.

IMHO.Cheaper and better to come back again at a better time of year -June-September inclusive. Airfares are pretty cheap...

OK, it looks like two trips might be on the cards. Fishing in April and hunting later in the year. Thanks for all your advice.
