hvrhunterThar hunting
What is the status on free range thar and chamois hunting since the NZ government started their eradication campaign?
I was rescheduled due to the pandemic. Are these hunts even feasible now?
Two emails to outfitter have gone unanswered.

shanksponywho did you email? The last few years have been tough on that industry and maybe the business has closed?
I havnt been down there since the cull, and the herd has been much reduced, but reports from mates are there are still Tahr about in reasonable numbers. Though the trophy quality will start to go into decline over the next few years as less young bulls coming through to replace those dieing off or getting killed.
For what its worth foo any hunter heading over here after a tahr, do a private land hunt. Dont do a helihunt as the outfitters doing those are the worst, with the worst morals and they will take any bull they see now- even the juveniles.

hvrhunterThe outfitter is still in business and @ several shows in US. He does operate helihunts,I just want a ride into high country to hunt and camp. I hunted free range chamois and tahr in 1986, now age has caught up. I read where the cull count is + 7500 do you know is this accurate ?

shanksponyI think that will be for the initial phase of the cull. I expect its double or triple that by now.
Id suggest that if the outfitter isn't replying, then he doesn't want to do that style of hunt. Good on you for wanting to do it that way. IM unsure of who's operating right now, but Look up Joseph Peter. Heres his web page.
https://hardyardshunting.co.nzhe will give you a real full on hunt and is an incredible mountain guide who will do a proper foot based mountain hunt for you.
