Traveling with firearm to New Zealand. Avoid Australia?
Just wondering if any Canadians have traveled to NZ with a firearm or Kiwis to Can and back. How much more hassle is it to fly via the USA or Aus? Also any airlines to avoid or recommend? It will be first time flying with a gun.

Thanks for any input.

Cheers CM

Air New Zealand fly non stop from Vancouver to Auckland and are no problem to fly with firearms with.

You will need New Zealand firearms licence holder licence number for your import permit/visitors licence.

Yes it's very simple. Apply for your NZ licence on-line in advance and just stop in at police station at airport upon your arrival. You will need $25NZD in cash to pay for it. Air New Zealand has been decent to fly with.

Like what has already been said.

Just remember that it takes several weeks to get an Australian permit while the NZ procedure is alot easier.

If it was me, I would fly Air NZ direct to Auckland from Vancouver. Just a lot simpler with one single licensing to manage.
