Con338Lapua banned in SA??
Guys,
Anyone from SA that can clarify whether SA Registry has just this week notified gundealers that no more 338Lapua's will be registered in that State???
Been making news at AHN ... trying to find out if its real or a beat-up. Supposedly components and ammunition included. Existing rifles will remain. Reason ... "sniper calibre".

Cheers...
Con

BwanaBobThere is worse still to come - apparently Jackboot Johnny is still trying to ban all large calibre rifles and is trying to force the states to comply by tying such a ban to the Federal Govt's water supply legislation. In this disgusting plan, he has the Victorian Govt as a willing accomplice.
In Qld, shooting groups have already met with the Police Minister to get him on our side and the same will be happening in NSW, shortly.
There is no justification for this ban, other than Howard's dislike of firearms and simply shows were we will be if that bastard is re-elected.
Anyone else have any information on this situation?

Sambar 9.3There was a rumor (a RUMOR!!!) doing the rounds that all military cals were next, along with pump and lever action rifles.
I can't see it happening, how many 303's are out there? 223's? 308's?
But, then again, how many thought we would lose self loading .22's?
Bastards. The problem with replacing Jackboot Johnnie, is look who would replace him...

I don't think that the alternative could be any worse than what we have and, besides, we need to keep turning them (the politicians) over until one of them gets the idea that they have to start serving the people.
As long as that moron Howard stays in power he thinks that it is because the people approve of his policies, and that he has a mandate, and he will just keep screwing us - it is time he went!

BushchookWould be tough to find a more anti firearm PM unless we appointed someone from Gun Control Australia . Let's flick the little prick ! (Maybe I could sell that to the ALP ? )
The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

AvatarI really doubt whether this type of thing is coming directly from Mr Howard himself despite his well known anti-gun stance.
I'm betting that the guy couldn't tell a rifle barrel from a jack handle.
More likely it's coming from some senior police beaureaucrat or other public servant who DOES know the difference and who is advising the government.
Now the really scary part is that these people are not elected........
First I've heard of this BTW but can't say it surprises me anymore.
I feel there's more going on here than meets the eye.....

M 98got a e mail from a friend who works at ADI and he told me the WA and SA police conducted tests with the 338 lapua and were hitting a fridge at 2500m CONSISTENTLEY.....and they decided its not in the public intrest for people to have sniper rifles

jimbobMaybe if politicians actually governed for and in the interest of the people, they might not have such guilty consciences that get them imagining 'snipers on the rooftop'.
What must they think about shooters as a body of people?
Also, was Downer not in the media recently talking about they had gun control "about right?". I'm looking forward to a post-Howard political scene, whatever it may be ...

What the ponce meant was "they" can now see the big problem with unlicensed unregisted and prohibited guns in the hands of crims.

My query is not about the .338 Lapua or .50 BMG rounds, but is this rumour extending a campaign against all big bore calibres ie stand ones like .458 Win Mag, .470 NE, .375 H&H etc etc ?
Or is it the so-called "sniper" cartridges only?

I guessed as much, John.
That's why I asked the Victorian Minister.
Might be worth getting some SSAA (SA) reps to ask your police minister...

Sambar 9.3No reply from the Minister, but the phone reply from registry indicates that "Each application will be considered on it's merits. If no genuine sporting need can be demonstrated, then the application will be denied by the Commissioner."
Now to get it in writing...
