My son is in the Navy and just got his orders, will be in Guam for the next 4 years. Looking around has anyone hunted in Papua New Guinea? Anyone have any information on hunts there? Thanks in advance!

The only outfitter is bruce alexander. He offers water buffalo, rusa and feral pigs. There is an article in a German hunting magazine. Can send you the article. Do you speak german

I have worked there. He is better off fishing. Hunting in that jungle would off the scale difficult. The local Papuans have likely hunted it out. They eat anything that walks, slithers or crawls....

I dont know about being 'hunted out" 400 squares is a lot of country and he is offering THREE bulls per client!

New Cal of course was the No1 destination for Javan Rusa. The French authorities have done the best to stuff it up in recent years though there are still a few outfitters who may have access to good areas that are unfenced and not as affected by the mass culling that has gone on there. North Qld is a better option in my opinion for rusa. We pulled out of New Cal operations at the end of 2010, havent been back since.

That said - John Clark is the most reliable outfitter in New Cal and he has been doing it for a very long time.

More than one hunter has told me that the military and locals are doing their best to eat all the buffalo. Cheap meat for the lads - shot from the gunship... That's what I have heard.

Hey Matt, do you know if Jim was there with Bruce? I talked to Bruce quite a bit last fall about doing a hunt with him in the next couple of years. Sounds like a real adventure to me.

Matt s correct, I hunted with John Clark there last year and not many if anyone knows more about Javan Rusa than Clarkie, or has better areas.
Shot three great stag with the big one in the top 20.

Well, I dont think there is anyone else I would trust there.

I was on Guam from 2009 to 2012. My father was developing a project in PNG and I was going to fly down for a weekend of fishing, but the flight was actually quite a bit more expensive than a flight to the States, so I never went.

I would like to go TO Gaum... and hunt one of those little brown deer!!

Hi Gents. I can tell you that the buff hunting in PNG is not for the faint hearted! the locals give them a super hard time with vintage weapons from bow & arrows, spears to guns which has resulted in some angry bulls in close country. At this stage I still believe you can't take your own rifles. I have a mate who worked to open it through Bruce and they got some really great bulls and some nice rusa. I hope to do this hunt sometime as there are "pink" buff up there which make for a cool trophy

They do seem to get more of those red buffalo than we do, although their genetics cam from Australia I think.

That's interesting Matt.

That cow was shot in NE Arnhem Land a few weeks ago and was actually a bit more red/pink than the image suggests. Of course the red/pink colouration is relatively common.... often concealed by grey or black mud!!!!

I shot a very similar one quite a few years ago,
it was either a cow or a bullock, very long
thin horns like that.

Have also nailed a few Red one's and used to get pushed around by a very friendly red one called Big Red, Small and short body but big horns.

He liked salt, beer and bread soaked in beer
or wine !!!

I was in PNG for a month some 20 years ago. I tried to set up some hunts but nothing ever worked out. Glad to see someone found a way to cut through the red tape and wantock
