Calling dingos
In Alberta Canada I have had some success calling in Coyotes and wolves and shot some. Will dingos come to a call and what kind of calls do you use? I am coming to NSW in Dec. for a year while my wife is on a teacher exchange in Griffith. I will bring some of my game calls and try calling dingos to shoot if I can swing that or to photograph. While photographing them do I need any self defence "considerations" or will they just run off when the jig is up?

I doubt if you'll find any dingo's around Griffith but foxes are a good bet.

It's mercy, compassion and forgiveness I lack; not rationality.

...I can get a very realistic crying human baby sound out of a screey RP6 call...

I don't think our American friends will get that Express Big Grin

DM's right Duffy4, red foxes would be your prime target there. That and hares, apparently they come to fox calls...or so I've read. I've whistled up feral cats and a hawk with a fox call. The hawk scared three shades of shite out of me as it swooped from behind.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

One of my jackal hunting tricks is just to drop a half full clear plastic bottle of water in the middle of a dirt track and then sneak back on foot a couple of hours later..... The jackals can smell the water but can't get to it....... they get really frustrated but don't want to give up and offer an easy shot.....It works a treat! - I don't know if it'll work on dingos or Aussie foxes but it might be worth a try. I love fox whistling and it doesn't get simplier than this. A tin whistle, a .22 and a fox clap Oh and the fabulous Baker Boys.

scotch predator callers work great on dingo's and wild dogs as well as foxes.

I’ve had good luck howling them up in both southern Qld and the Snowy Mountains. Never used a predator call but I’d love to give it a try next time I have a spare day in the mountains.

I had a pack of them nearly run me over when trying to entice a buffalo bull back with calf mews. I'm very sure a howler will work, but I haven't tried it.
