Jowyan land hunt
Just returned from a hunt on Jowyan land consesion with Eddie Clark. We took three great buffalo, mine an old broomed off bull with a bow and acouple of proper red skined short horn Oxen.
Ed did himself proud as this rates as on of my best experiences afeild...100%

My bull with a bow at 30 yasds, Two arrows. He didnt have a tooth in his head.

Very good indeed.

Any idea what they measured ?

Interesting that the one with no teeth looks fatter than the 2nd one.

Not wanting to start an argument - but is it important what the trophy measures?

In my meagre line up of heads on the wall I dont actually care how big they are - they are a reminder of my hunting adventure and were the best available on the day . I dont see hunting as a competition against other hunters at all.

Nice bulls , by the way.

To me, not normally. I very rarely ask. I am like you, my meagre sets are nothing special but I don't care.

The reason I asked is because I was trying to get a perspective which is hard with the horns at an angle like they are. They look big but it may just be the way the animal is lying that makes the horns look bigger than they are.

I also like to do an estimate as best I can of the base / length and see how close I am.

I like trophy's like the brushed one, real old bulls with a story - I have a few horns that fit the same type of profile.

The score of the animal has absolutly nothing to do with trophy Quality for me. I passed up a number of bulls that would have scored way better than this bull. I was looking for an old bull that was not breeding anymore with some character and attitude, and this old guy had it.
Mike passed up bulls that scored as well if not better than his becuse they were not carrying their wight like and older bull should...they were longer but thinner. IMHO the scoreing meathod has a flaw with just length and base measurments. It promotes taking younger bulls, and mabey should incorperate some type of quartering meatheod to measure mass carried out.
I don't know... you'll notice I didn't mention the score with the pics because it is not inpotant to me...A trophy is in the eye of the beholder, if the inches of an animal are inportant to you thats cool. I do think those inches should represent the maturity of an animal when setting a guide line for taking those animals.

By the way Mikes bull was 32.25 x 33.in length 16.625 x 16.625 bases

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Thanks so much. I'll be back next year to add a little Barra fishing in Darwin to it.

500, he was a bit bigger body than the other bull, but there was some kind of swelling under the skin of the bull that made him feel as if he had an air nossle stuck in his butt. You could push on it and it would feel puffy like he had air under his skin. I think it might have to do with the arrow shot and lactic asid build up. The arrow was low in the chest, scooted in under the lungs and popped the heart. He ran until he ran out of blood.
It was a really wierd thing, it made him look fat and poofy.

Thanks for that, you have similar sentiments to me. I actually passed up what turned out to be a 109 (it was shot the following week) many years ago solely because we were heading back to camp on bikesand it was walking in from the flood plain. All I had to do was walk 100 metres and stand by a tree and let it walk past me. Wasn't what I wanted.

I haven't scored any of my heads but they all have a story / hunt / charge involved in them.

Aim for the build up time Maxart and you can get a bit of magpie goose shooting in as well.
