Adaptor Cartridges Where in Australia
Does anyone know if & where I could buy an adaptor cartridge to allow .30 Carbine to be fired through a .308 win, & a .32 acp to .308 win in Australia.
I have seen these available in the USA for under $20 each but can't seem to source them here.
I am guessing that to buy them from the states would be inviting trouble from customs etc?
Any help with this is gratefully received.

Regards Peter

Interesting project.

It'd be like the inverse of the old Remington Accelerators - instead of a subcalibre bullet from a normal casing, you're shooting a subcalibre round with a normal bullet ....

Sorry to hijack the thread, but are Accelerators legal in Oz?

505G, OK what do I need to import them myself?

Muzza I have a lathe but to cut the chamber is beyond my skill level as I don't have the respective chamber reamers. I probably will give it a try though. All the same I'd like to buy some already made to be able to copy.

Bren7x64 I am unsure however I have been told by a fellow shooter that the accelerator sabots are not legal as they are classed as an armour piercing round capable of defeating bullet proof vests. I

A B709 is all you need.

Yes, it is a PITA having to get a piece of paper
for a Sub $30 item but that's how it is.

Personally, for all the fluffing around,
I would just buy whatever you need.

OK thanks I will call Firearms Registry next week & start the ball rolling. I will let you know the outcome.

Cheers

Depending on your lathe and your own ability and patience, you can do these relatively easy.

But, having a chambering reamer would make it so much easier.

Can't you borrow or rent a reamer?

Agree, for someone who has everything already
and maybe only needs a reamer.

But I doubt either of those reamers are
readily available.

if yoou have a lathe you can make a reamer easily enough . You are only going to cut one chamber so it doesnt have to be a flash reamer - just functional. The cartridge dimensions are easily found , make a copy of the cartridge on the lathe , mill half of it away , drill most of the metal out with a succession of drills and then ream the rest.

Or just do the paper work and import the sub-chamber you need and avoid all that work ...

Actually, as he wants adaptors for straight wall cartridges, he can easily make those on his lathe if he has the right tools.

I would take measurements of the case, then drill a piece of suitable steel slightly smaller, then finish it off with an internal bore cutter.

We used to make adaptors for 357 magnum and 44 magnum to be used on spear guns like this years ago.

Interesting - some guy in a Sea Shepherd tee shirt came into the gunshop I was doing some work in and bought a power head - maybe they need to be licenced?
