AnotherAZWriterComing to Queensland
Hey Guys,
We are traveling to QLD in July to visit our OZ friends. One owns a farm near Brisbane with red and chital deer. She said I can hunt them, but she doesn't have a rifle.
Any of you guys want to join me? Do I need any paperwork to do this? My only hunting in OZ has been pigs with a dog and knife south of Perth.
Also, we are traveling to Perth as well. I want to take the train from Sidney to Perth. Any of you ever done that? I like taking the train in Europe because you get to see the countryside, but not sure if that would be too painful in Australia.
Any fishing recommendations near Brisbane?
Thanks.

BakesWhat dates will you be in Brisbane? I have a few rifles available and I'll take you out estuary fishing if you'd like (I have a small tinny). Now a train across the country sosunds good but its a looooong way with not much to look at but red desert, not my cup of tea but some people think thats stuffs great. Paper work wise for borrowing a rifle, I'll look into it today but I don't think it'll be much of a problem.

Matt GrahamYou really should get a visitors permit to use/borrow a firearm on your trip. Have a look at this document... it isnt too bad.

You may need a visitors permit for every state of Australia.

Qld, NSW, Vic, SA, and WA. And WA you probably won't get one. My guess anyway.

That is if you plan to carry your firearms with you all the way.
Apply for one for QLD I think and ...

Good idea to want to see the countryside, but a long train journey like that would be painful unless you dislike flying and/or are a train enthusiast. Also cost a LOT more than flying if you want a sleeper cabin.
Driving is the real way to see the countryside but also more costly and more personal effort. Some young dudes like to ride bicycles to really see the countryside ...

I personally like driving and find deserts interesting. Even if driving by myself for four days in a row.
In the Nullabor Plain (desert) in the West of South Aust, you will find the longest straight section of road anywhere in the world!

Lots of bush and desert on the East to West journey whether by train or road.

Not a fisherman, but I'm sure there are good fishing options.
But spectacular where land and sea meet.

RidgemanLet us know your dates. I'm sure you will find plenty of other hunters who are happy to be of assistance. Although I'm a lefty I keep a couple of right hand rifles for friends and visitors - .243 and .308.
July's a good time for Rusa as well and I may be able to help you out with this.
Plenty of fishing all along the coast and most creeks have something you can amuse yourself trying a lure or a bait.
You'll have no shortage of offers from Aussie AR members - we're a friendly bunch.

AnotherAZWriterWow guys, thanks a lot. Ms AAZW and I are getting our dates set. I will try and find out more about the farm and the animals we can hunt. Bakes, I would love to go fishing (and cover all costs) and if I can recip with some hunting in QLD, so much the better. Let me get our dates set - so far looks like late July -mid Aug.
