oddsixSydney to Darwin
I'd like to bring my firearm when heading over to Darwin for my buffalo hunt next June. However, I will only have 2 hours when entering Australia in Sydney to make my flight to Darwin. Is this enough time as I believe I would have to go through the process in Sydney and think it may be cutting it dangerously close to missing my flight. Or is the firearm permits obtained in Darwin. As a side note if I have to I'll use the outfitters firearms but really would like to get a buffalo with my gun and my loads.
Thanks.

Matt GrahamHave you booked your tickets right through to Darwin via Sydney on the one service? This is the critical thing when it comes to transfer times. The ticketing company and airlines decide what is doable and what they will honour. If you are on a single Qantas or one world ticket right through it is easy. Under normal circumstances on entry to Sydney the firearm will not slow you down. I can post some tips for you later.

sheephunterabI'd say you'd be cutting it close but likely doable if all flights are on time. Our flight arrived an hour late in Sydney. If you miss your flight it's a long wait for the next one. We made the connection in 55 minutes without firearms but there was some running involved. You will need to change terminals.

oddsixThanks guys I'm leaning towards using the outfitters firearms but damn I sure would like to bring mine. Oh well guess I'll just use my 375 to practice.

oddsixI booked direct with Quantas. Will be flying West Jet to Los Angeles then Quantas to Sydney then Quantas to Darwin. The lay over is only 2 hours.
Thanks.

The difference is that Qantas will do everything they can to see you make that connection. If you know exactly what to do and say you can get through there and over to the domestic terminal pretty fast. Qantas has a transfer lounge/bus to make that happen.

sheephunterabAre you flying out of Darwin? That was the final deciding factor with us. Air North has very low baggage allowances and won't guarantee extra baggage will make it on the plane even if you pay for it.
