I drank an average of 5 litres of water a day. I handled the heat and humidity and kept up with Matt when walking.

The air conditioned rooms did help when we weren't hunting.... Smiler

Great stuff and great video. Well done.

Questions
Did you hit the animal on the second shot
or couldn't you tell.

Also, where did your shots land on the animal,
1 - 4 ?

Anyway, well done, looks a great place to hunt.

My shots were :

1. Left shoulder.
2. Left rump after the bullet clipped some brush.
3. Left rump.
4. Texas heart shot.
5. Behind right shoulder.
6. Back of the neck/head.

The first shot was a killer but they just have that ability to keep on trucking till the brain stops working. The loose hide helps them a bit too as it covers the entry hole and stops the lungs from deflating completely (immediately)

Matt, I also noticed that, I had to look closely where the entry hole was for the first shot, similar to a FMJ or solid. There was also no blood at the first shot entry. The one Barnes-X that I recovered showed very little expansion. I think the first shot slowed the bull down, the PH said that they normally take off when not hit properly.

I knew my shots were good as my PH never took his double off his shoulder... Smiler and I didn't hear any cursing from him....

Thanks

Yes, your first shot stuffed him and stopped him
taking off fast.

I prefer going lower and taking out the heart
for the reasons Matt said re the lungs / skin.

Anyway, good stuff.

Now for those other sour pussys - well go back and READ my posts! Yes these are feral animals and not the Assam Wild buffalo. I never said that they are not tough, never said it is not hunting & never said they are not good trophies.

Yes they are very tough animals. BUT - Please don't try to claim that these are as tough as the Assam Wild buffalo - that is all!

Do you hang the plough shares over the rib cage, almost like armor plating? I have heard that the Assam type come with built in armor, especially for non-sour pussys. Cool

See,the Buffalo over here lives in the same vicinity as Pigs / Wild Boar so they obviously
saw the benefits of having those big, tough shoulder pads that Wild boar have and decided they need some of their own Big Grin

So it is pigs, not pussys, sour or otherwise, that cause toughness in Assams and not in ferals with plough shares that are no longer domesticated post readers. Is that about right? Roll Eyes

Is this Barnes X? Is that what you normally use? Or was this Matts ammo? There is a huge amount of difference between x-bullet and TSX.

Not sure what Matt's client average is but it seems to depend on a number of factors.

That one above IMHO was a hard one as he didn't present much for all the follow up shots so he did well to connect where he could. At least he kept shooting which doesn't always happen from what I hear !!!

The only thing I do different is I tend to run
towards them to get closer but I don't have a
PH with me !!!

I am always at least 2 if not 3, first through the heart (my preferred shot), second either finisher if it falls over or the running away shot into the hip to pull them up and then a finisher.

Would be interested in what Matt says.

A note of some concern here. These Pigs / Wild Boar, are they genuine or are they those little girly feral ones, far removed from those tough really wild ones found on the Sub-continent. Roll Eyes
Of course considering that Charl's feral moo took six .375 rounds to finish the job, then it stands to reason that in order to successfully hunt an Assam big boy, the minimum calibre should be nothing less than a 155mm HE set with an instantaneous fuse delivered by a G6 at 40 klms. Big Grin

Naki will say that the Aussie one's are the little girly one's that are domesticated pigs gone feral compared to the Kiwi one's which
are pure bred, mean fckers from Europe Big Grin

Yep those ferals can be real cunning bastards. (and they are) beer

I was a bit vague there Matt, I refer to any Barnes bullet as the Barnes-X, for the hunt I used Matts ammo loaded with the TSX. Here at home I use the original Barnes-X, I bought hundreds of heads years ago and still reload them.

Nice couple of trophies. Love the colour of that buff.

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.
