AfricanmountainhunterTahr hunt in October
I am planning a Tahr hunt end October in the Timaru area , I would like to fly into the mountains be dropped off and then walk out after 5 days of hunting.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

shanksponyBy yourself, or with a guide?
October can be tricky, lots of water movement of various types right through to christmas.

shanksponyNot sure who does those hunts now. Maybe Chris Mcarthy Lake Hawea safaris. Your guide will sort out any problems.

TrackersNZI could do it if it's end of October. Early Oct I'd be in Kyrgyzstan. PM if you want info. Am hunting Tahr at present on West Coast. We got a Bull yesterday. A lot of snow about. Makes for hard work.

BulltahrI have 2 hunters coming in October, on our land (private, free range) they are well below the snow line.
With zero pressure they will be in big mobs.

Work on 3 -5 days. We are based near Timaru. No helicopter BS.
PM me also.

Great !! as the hunt is not just about the animal but the scenery , and everything else that comes with it !! especially for us that come from a dry arid country , where everything is differnt shades of just Brown !!

pulkiJust arrived- still havent unpack- from a very successfull tahr and chamois hunt with KIWI SAFARIS. Yes, no helicopter BS. Many tahrs in mobs. Great fun to try to get close to them. Every aspect of the hunting was FABOULUS ! Friendly people,Very competent and helpfull PH ,gun friendly country, very good food and wines. Great accomodations.
Very happy with my Blaser K95 ,once again it proves to be a joy to carry and shoot with devastating effect.
Thank you Bulltahr, we had a very good time and stories to remember.
Pulki.

AfricanmountainhunterI wish I had taken my 300 Win Mag with me though. The winds up there where incredible, sometimes gusting at 170 km/h and you had to hold 5 lengths of a Tahr , and still shoot way in front of it.
I was useing a 7mm-08 , great calibre if the wind was still!!!
